Please Help Me: I'm Stupid!

I make considerable use of Microsoft Word 2007 (version 12.0.6668.5000). One thing I have never worked out is how to properly use, what I think is called, a multi-level numbered list. Below is an example of what I mean:

5. Heading

5.1 blah blah blah

5.2 blah blah blah

5.3 blah blah blah

If anyone can provide simple guidance for a feeble mind I would be grateful.
