Please help me with purchasing ram

on my bios my computer says 2400mhz/533mhz front side bus

what's the best ram I can buy that will make the most out of my system? my max is 1024 so I'm thinking about 2 512mb's.

 

and if i have one ram that's 266mhz, if i get 2 it's optimized for my 533? or can if i get a pc 3200/ddr 400, it will run faster?

 

for optimum performance the ideal set up would have your FSB and your RAM the same speed ... but getting PC3200 RAM will be faster it will just bottleneck through your FSB... but don't mix the DDR266 in w/ the faster RAM as the faster RAM will slow to the 266 speed

 

That will work as long as you get the same type of RAM that you are replacing the 2 512s with

 

thanks for the replies but the 512mb pc3200/400mhz is cheaper than the 512mb pc2100/266mhz, my original installed ram is 2100/266mhz; if i get the pc3200/400mhz and i put that in it will slow down to 266mhz + my original 266mhz so that it won't cause any conflict or problems?

if it doesn't cause any problems then maybe i should buy the cheaper 512mb pc3200/400mhz ram?

 

oh and if my max front side bus is 533mhz; if i get 2 400mhz, which saves me a lot, they will both slow down to to work with the fbs of 533mhz and not cause any problems?
