A lot of folks having problems with IE7, I for one. Uninstalling IE7 will automatically revert back to IE6.

    Then go here: http://www.wxpnews.com/V7M837/061212-IntelliAdmin

This will keep IE7 from automatically being installed on your system. You can always download and install IE7 later when they get the bugs out.

Always backup your registry before making any changes.

System Restore does not replace the process of uninstalling a program. To completely remove the files installed by a program, you must remove the program using Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or the program's own uninstall program.

Thanks Kniht for taking the time to help me out. You are a Godsend.
I have removed IE7 successfully then rebooted. IE6 automatically installed then ran the IE7 blocker. I forgot to back up registry before doing this.
Problem still remains - When I connect to Internet, PC freezes at first loading page (google being home page). I cannot access any other programs at all. The mouse works okay, by that I mean the pointer can be clicked and moved. The hourglass appears over the webpage. Its like the system is on a go (very) slow. I had to wait 10 minutes before system would allow me to navigate here! When frozen I automatically try Ctrl Alt Del, but doesnt work.
Any idea what to do now?
    Steve

    Hi Kniht
Managed to do a scan with Panda ActiveScan. Results as follows:
    Virus - 0
    Spyware - 16
    Hacking tools + Rootkits -0
    Dialers - 0
    Security Risks -0
    Suspicious Files -1
I have attached the Scan Report from PandaActive.

    What can I do now?
    Thanks

Right click on the IE icon on your desktop, choose "Properties". In the "Security" and "Privacy" tabs be sure both are set to "Default".

In the "General" tab, click "Delete cookies" and "Delete Files".

Also go to C:\Windows\Temp and delete everything in the Temp folder.

    Try to connect to internet.

True, it is "simpler" to push a button, but what does one learn about their system from pushing a button. Once one is familiar with some of the working mechanics of their system, then go for the push button ease. Of course there are those that don't care to know how to do things manually, which is fine, and in that case go for the luxury immediately.

I use CCLeaner myself, but I feel comfortable using the application due to the fact I know where it's going in my system to do what it was made to do.
Then again these thoughts are just my opinion. (Others may disagree, and they probably will.)

If one would like to download CCleaner, why not go here:

By downloading at Major Geeks, one doesn't have to put up with the Yahoo Toolbar or decide whether or not to install it. :)

    This is true.

I gave up on the aspirin. I know how tequila works! :)

    Hi
Adjusted Security and Privacy settings to Default, then went to c:/Windows/temp. Sent all files to recycle bin except 2 which read:
Perflib_Perfdats_7c: It is being used by another person or program
Cannot delete! How can I delete them?
I have got CCleaner installed and analysed and deleted all selected files.

I also tried the tequila and needed quite a few aspirins to "delete" the problem!!

To find out what program has a lock on Perflib_Perfdats_7c

    Go here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Unlocker_d4660.html

Download and install "Unlocker", right click on Perflib_Perfdats_7c and select "Unlocker". This will show you what program has taken claim. You can then use the "Unlock" feature in Unlocker, then delete.

You may not want to delete it. A lot of these particular files are being used by legit programs such as SpywareGuard, Process Explorer, etc. If so, these files will automatically delete upon closing of the application.

I have found a virus! Ran AVG in Safe Mode and came up with the following result:Virus found Klone pathe: C:\Program Files\HJT\hijackthis\backups\backup-20061001-203246-824.dll
This has been moved to Virus Vault in AVG.
Ran SpywareBlaster and Spybot but no threats discovered?
    Any help?

Perhaps this problem should be moved to Malware forum?

Might be a good idea. Let the malware experts have a look.

Have you run an online scan? Doesn't hurt to get a "second opinion".

    This is a good one:

Yes thanks, I have run Panda ActiveScan - no detected problems.
Is there an easy way to Link this to the Malware guys, rather than go throught the whole story again?
