This is starting to drive me nuts. 3 weeks ago, I moved my PC from one desk to a new desk, suddenly I have no video. The card was a Radeon X8000 PCIe on an Abit KN8 Sli, both had been working fine since I installed them new 8-10 monthes ago. I tried a different monitor, reseated the card, everything. I then bought a Radeon X3000 PCIe card as a temporary replacement while the other card is being RMA'd. The other day I pull the PC out to remove a card, buttoned it up and... no video again. Now I suspect the mother board, and Abit techs do too.

Today, on a completely different PC that had also been working, I put in a new CDRW drive, some ram, a wireless net card, and a video capture card. The machine booted up fine, installed video drivers, and that goes fine. As I try to install the next driver, the picture goes out, and again I have no video. Another Radeon card self destructs. What is going on here?

Sounds like you need a new desk?

In all seriousness... are all the problems occurring off the same monitor?

Yes, they are. A Samsung 17" flatscreen that's about 2 years old. But I have also tried a different monitor with no luck.

And I built the desk. I may look like the son of a jewish carpenter, but that's as far as it goes. I'm more like the anti-carpenter ;)

So, are there any other ideas out there? I need to get it back up and running fast, it's my work machine.

Are you moving any components between the systems? This one sound like one of those million to one things that just drive you nuts. Only thing I can think of is maybe a component that is moved from one to the other that is the root cause. If you had already used the original monitor on the second system before trying the other then it may be doing something to the vid cards.

This probably won't help, it's just a wild guess and probably way off the mark but you never know with problems that move as you change things around.

The only thing in common between the two PCs, is the keyboard, mouse, and monitor. I had planned on moving them into the new desk and using a KVM switch.

The second PC did briefly have video again, but that was one shot I guess. So, if it is the monitor, would it kill the vid cards?

If there is some kind of minor short somewhere in the monitor it could effect the vid cards. This is a very slim, should never really happen but can, way out in the twilight zone problem but it is a possibility.

I got the first motherboard and video card RMA'd, and put it back together. The board lights up, but nothing powers up. I do have all 3 power plugs plugged in, and pretty sure the wires from the front panel are correct. I have a new PSU on the way, so I can see if that might be the problem.

Ok, here's the latest- I got a new Mobo from Abit. I got a new video card from ATI. I got a new processor, and a new power supply just in case. I get it all together, and I still have no video or post beep. WTF?

As instructed, I pulled the board, and set it on the table barebones style, i.e. one stick of ram, the video card, and the keyboard. Everything powered up, but still no post beep or video. What is the deal?
