I've been having Malware problems which I believe are due to "Winlogonhook". Whenever I click on anything while browsing which has to do with removing "Winlogonhook" from any site at all, my browser somehow just closes and keeps on doing it each time I try. I use BitDefender Anti-Virus V10 and each time I open Internet Explorer, tons of Virus warning alerts come up warning me about "Winlogonhook" and files in my System32 folder behaving like "Trojan: Winlogonhook". Internet Explorer than quits and my Computer Freezes. I also have a warning that appears in my system tray sometimes telling me how I need to download software like "Ultimate Defender" and "Ultimate Fixer" because my computer is infected with Spyware. I've tried to scan and delete but my Scans from Bit Defender, Spy Sweeper, Spybot Search & Destroy, Xoftspy SE and Adaware SE don't pick up anything that has to do with "Winlogonhook" but at the moment I open IE, all these warnings shoot up and Windows Explorer terminates and Internet Explorer just freezes on me. And any browsing having to do with getting rid of it closes my browers; Opera or Firefox. I may not be able to come back to this topic once I'm done posting, so I'll use my friend's computer to view your help and reply.

Can you please help me with this?
    Thanks in advance.:)

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Each time I try to download Hijackthis, my browser instantly closes.

If possible, use your friends computer to download the programs and then install on your computer.

You should also do this first: Winlogon removal.

The problem is much more, I'm beginning to learn. Each time I try to install Hijackthis, the installation terminates. When I attempt to run GetRunKey
or ShowNew, it terminates instantly aswell. I've tried the winlogon removal, but it still doesn't work.

Are you able to get into safe mode and do a system restore ....can you run any of the scans in safe mode w/networking? This will run from a cd or thumb drive: Clamwin Portable.

I have the same problem in safe mode. The files that keep coming up from Bit Defender's Virus Alert are:

    "c:\windows\system32\xrvsayqcgwab.dll

    Suspect of:
    BehavesLike:Trojan:WinlogonHook"

    And

    "c:\windows\system32\dykvbwlgslnb.dll

    Suspect of:
    BehavesLike:Trojan:WinlogonHook"

These files are constantly being shot up by the virus alert, and nothing else is picking them up. Heck I have to close Bit Defender just for it to get off my screen each time I start my PC. Can you please tell me how to get rid of these files before this gets more worse.:cry

Edit: OMG! I searched the files: "dykvbwlgslnb.dll" and "xrvsayqcgwab.dll" on google and the only result it gave me was the same exact post I made on the Bit Defender forum for help! Which means that these files are only in my log file from Bit Defender's scan. It's probably some new infection and I had to be the first one who got it I guess...

Is it safe to manually and permanently delete those 2 files?

Yes it is safe to delete them ...but they are only the tip of the iceberg .....where you able to run clamwin from a cd?
Try to download to another computer and then run on yours:
    Download this file - Combofix.exe
    2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Attach this log to your next reply

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

I tried to delete "xrvsayqcgwab.dll" and "dykvbwlgslnb.dll" but I get the error message:

"Cannot read from source file or disk."

And no matter how many times I delete "bmgenkji1.exe", "bmgenkji2.exe" and "bmgenkji3.exe" they always seem to return even though I have system restore turned off.

I was able to run clamwin and combofix. I have attached the logs from both the scans. I didn't run Ccleaner before starting Clamwin and the log came up huge with files in my quarantine, so I removed those from the log.

Are you still having download issues?
Are you able to run any of the other scans?

Download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    * Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:

    * Now click the 'Done' button.
    * Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    * You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

    What is this:
    1-Click Maintenance?

  11. Grim Reaper

    Grim Reaper Private E-2

The issues with downloading are gone and I can now install Hijackthis without it instantly closing. So I guess that part is fixed... I believe I can now run all the scans. And I don't know what 1-Click Maintenance is...

I did what you told me with Avenger and I've attached the log but I got the error with the bmgenkji.exe files, it's in the log.

Edit: Bit Defender has started back functioning properly for me without all those errors coming up and I was able to quarantine all the bmgenkji.exe files.

Don't worry about it man, it's ok...avenger fixed it all now.:)

As for the logs, they found nothing at all. (Spybot, Counterspy, Panda Active, Bit Defender online) Everything seems to be working perfectly now. The only thing I got was an alert from my Bit Defender Anti-Virus v10 about the files avenger deleted. Somehow it was able to pick it up from the avenger back up zip file. However nothing is wrong at all now.

You are not in the clear yet!

Please run couterspy and have it fix everything it finds.

    Re-run ComboFix.

Please copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

    Now attach the logs for:
    Counterspy
    ComboFix
    HJT
    Shownew
    GetRun

Why did you not allow counterspy to quarantine all the:
Download and Install RogueRemover Free h

Run RogueRemover and select Scan and the program will walk you through the remaining steps.

Do a search for these and delete them:
    Ultimate Defender
    messenger Plus

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Please copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

    Now attach logs for:
    ShowNew
    GetRun
    HJT

Your logs look clean. You may uninstall any programs we had you download (including Counterspy).

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
    * Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix you can delete the ComboFix.exe file and associated C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    5. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    7. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    8. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
