please help me!

hi there i dont know much about computers so i need your help please

the problem is that whenever i turn on my internet conection a few minuites after i am browsing my computer is used up by 100% (pc boost)

so i bring up task manager and a file called SVCHOST.EXE is using all the pc!

when i kill the process i cant browse my internet any more but internet is still on ? can some one help?

svchost.exe is a file used by your system and you shouldn't end it. It's only safe to end processes that are next to your user name, except explorer.exe then you lose your taskbar.
What cpu are you running, what connection you running and is there a firewall installed?

 

Svchost is a service that is used by other processes that are Network related, and it is needed for Network and Internet to function correctly.

Few processes can use independently the svchost, it might be that you have a Trojan that invoke one instant of svchost and chokes your system.

You need to run cleaning programs.

hi i have windows xp, and tiscali broadband, i haven't installed afirewall and dont know if there is one already.

i have run all these below

Ad Aware
hi jack this
xoftspy
spybot
ccleaner
system restore

but still no effect the same as before.

the 2 svchost files that take up usage are under 'System' (User name)

i cant use my pc for more than 4 mins it gets so so slooow i have to end these files and then i have only another 4 mins to do what i want before it cuts my internet off and shutsdown itself displaying a warning counting a ,minuite to shutdown

If the box that comes up looking like the image in the visible symptoms section, then you may have the Sasser worm. So that means getting a cleaner (like McAfee's Stinger from here) to remove it and installing the patch from the Microsoft website.

If you have difficulties getting stinger or the patch because of the reboots, go to Start>Run> type in "shutdown -a" (without the quotes), and it will stop the computer from restarting.

Hope this helps, but if not, we've at least ruled this worm out as a possible cause.

 

What virus protection are you using?

Also, if you answer Major Geeks questions... you'll prob. get the answer you need....
