    Hi,

I have been having problems with my PC, most notably since AVG Free stopped working. Ok, so I tried to download and run some other spyware/virus programs. However the computer kept freezing. It really slowed down a lot and I don’t know why. Then it just wouldn’t boot up, and I have just now successfully repaired windows and activated it aswell. Ok, so before the computer stopped booting, I went in to one of the users, and all the data on the desktop wasn’t there anymore. Where has it been moved exactly? I know it’s still there since the HD still shows the same amount of free space. Also, the main settings for each user seem to have been reset to the default ones, but it seems the data has been transferred somewhere else, does anyone know where the data is transferred to?
Anyway, now it’s just really slow and I first need to figure out why that is happening and how to fix that, and then I will find a way to locate the data, copy it to a external HD that I am going to buy and use that as a main storage device just in case. But for now, how can I fix the speed and performance of this computer?

I had succesfully removed 3 Trojans from the PC, but I am sure there must be lots of viruses and spyware still there.

I really need help. Should I post a HJK log?

    Hope someone can help.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi

May need to unhide files and folders and look in user accounts for those files, as if you repair installed your OS then new accounts may have been created.

but to help with malware issues we will need you to follow the below.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
