Hi all! This is my first time posting... I have a question I hope someone can answer (in simple terms:) ). I have just purchased reg. mechanic hoping it would help my problem. It won't... Anyway, while I use my computer either on line or off, a blue screen pops up with either of these two messages.
"Windows An error has occured. File name: IFSMGR (01) =00004C0D Error:0D:0028:C00374C....and the other: "Windows File name VFAT (01)+00006DB6 Error:OE 0028: C004B70A.... I have searched for information regarding this problem, but it's all greek to me. My question is, is there a download on majorgeeks.com that will fix this, or do I have to uninstall Win ME (which I have) and reinstall it, or is there another way to fix this. Should I uninstall ME all together and install XP or 98? I am sorry if this has been asked before, but I am at a loss. Thank you for your time. Amy

    Welcome animalbiz:)

Firstly, very few people here would go with ME, (Windows that is:) ). I've used 2K & 98 for years and still do at work. I've just installed XP Pro on my own machine and am very impressed.

If you post your specs we can give you more help:)

lmao are you refering to the BSOD?????

2nd of all, definitely don't go with ME, it was terrible and microsoft only sold it for like 6 months between win2k and xp. It has a bunch of problems with it. I would go with xp pro.

Would agree XP Pro, gives you a fighting chance with the BSOD, if your puter specs for it.

If you still get BSOD people here can guide you through isolating and resolving the problem.

    Specs please?

    Geeks eh...you've gotta love 'em:cool: :D

Yes, I haven't incountered the dreaded BSOD yet on XP, and I haven't seen it on XP yet either. Just sounded like it, and it is possible.

Amy, have you tried running Scandisk?

Hi, when I run Scandisc, it will run for a minute or two and then the blue screen pops up with the error message. I was able to do a Standard scan, but not the Through Scan.

Wow, thanks! But, I have to admit, I am sooo out of my league here. What is XP Pro and BSOD? Also, when you guys ask me about my specs...I have no clue. Anyway, I may just have someone look at my computer and fix it. I do enjoy this newly found site and will continue to visit to expand my knowledge. Thanks for everyones advice (even if I don't understand it :) ). If anyone wants to continue to add advice to my question, I will keep checking the board. Thanks again everyone and have a great day!
