My husband is a musician, and long story short, last night he deleted all of his songs-10 gigs worth!!!

The recycle bin is empty. Is there any way to get the files back? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated...

    Thanks,
    Bean

    Welcome to MajorGeeks bean1!:)

We have quite a few file recovery utilities available that you can try that may be able to recover the deleted files. I have successfully used a few of the free ones.

    Good Luck!:)

Accidents happen..people make mistakes. Please keep in mind that we prefer replies to threads in the tech forums to address the thread starters question/problem. Thank you:)

Abby keep in mind the method he used to delete them will determine wether or not they are recoverable.

Abby, thank you very much for the welcome and the suggestion, I will have him take a look at the link you gave-hopefully that will solve the problem.

Shang, I suppose he just did a good ol' fashioned "highlight and delete". How many other ways are there to delete files? I'm a little "ignorant" with regard to such things....

Again, thank you very much Abby--I really hope it works. :)

he highlighted and deleted ten gigs of songs, then went and flushed the recycle bin? Thats more deliberate then a mistake. There are bunches of utilities to recover files, but next time he makes a mistake like that tell him to DOD wipe that sector, so they will be completely non recoverable.

Either help, or don't post at all. This applies to everyone in this thread We aren't here to judge people's actions or intentions, unless they violate the rules of the forum. The poster wants to see if she can get her husband's data back, not listen to this nonsense.

In case you weren't aware, if the file amount is large enough, it will say its too big for the recycle bin, and give you the option to bypass it entirely. As well, if the X:\recycled folder becomes corrupted, guess what? You can lose contents of the recycle bin also.

Not that any of it matters.

Or possibly he deleted a folder thinking it was something else, got the "This file is too big to store in the Recycle Bin" message, clicked ok, then realized "Oh no! That was the wrong folder!" Stuff happens.

I'd have him minimize use on the computer as much as possible other than attempts to recover the files. The less he overwrites the data hidden on the hard drive, the better. I know my ex husband used to have a program that undeleted files, because he used to use it on my PC to spy on me (hence the ex part *winks*) I'll see if I can dig up what it was. I have no idea if it would work on mp3's but I'll see if I can find anything.

I have used this program with great success and reccomended to other members here. it might take awhile for 10 gigs worth.|MG| Free Download - Restoration 2.5.14
Also tell him not to use the partition where the data was untill he recovers the data so it will not get overwritten with other information.
