Hello guys. My cousin computer was very infected with malware and I ran the procedures from the "run first" thread and I made a ton of improvement but I think there is more to do (not sure).

here are the logs from her scan.

The combofix ran restarted and was almost finished I was just waiting for it to produce a log but did not produce a log for some reason. Command prompt failed and had this error. "R6025 pure virtual function call"

Let me know what else I should do if anything please. I saw that one of the sans foudn something but did not clean it. so i figure there might be more to do.

Also one thing to note is that I ran windows update after all the scans because the system was running so slow when i started. so windows updates are now current. um and I uninstalled something called playsushi because through add/remove programs since it wouldn't uninstall from firefox addons directly.

oh and there are 2 errors that appear when I reboot the system... not sure what they are. I will reboot and post what the errors are.

Thanks in advance for all your help.:major

EDIT: the superspyware log is too big?.... its 259 and limit is 250? I will try to break it up and repost.

Hi there and welcome. I am currently reviewing your logs and will get back to you with a set of instructions in the next post I make to you.

    1. Please run the official AVG Removal Tool

Reboot your PC and run Ccleaner (not the registry section)

    2. Please give the Norton Removal Tool (SymNRT) a run > reboot your machine and then run it again for good measure.

    3. If you do not use Windows Messenger Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    4. Playsushi still appears in add/remove programs. I thought you said you uninstalled it? try again then proceed with the below.

    5. Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    6. Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    6. Also delete all files in the below bold folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).

    7. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from avenger.

    8. Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    Hey Kestrel13!!

thanks for looking at my logs.

I did everything you instructed me to do. I did uninstall playsushi before but I had done it after I got the logs from the "run me first" thread.

when I ran hijack this! I didn't find the following entry's

    O2 - BHO: PlaySushi - {21608B66-026F-4DCB-9244-0DACA328DCED} - C:\Program Files\PlaySushi\PSText.dll

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ccApp] "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe"
    O9 - Extra button: Go PlaySushi! - {EBD24BD3-E272-4FA3-A8BA-C5D709757CAB} - C:\Program Files\PlaySushi\PSText.dll

I found and fixed all the others

The avenger program had a bunch of errors when I ran it. I attached the log

I deleted the stuff in the temp folders you listed, but some files/folder could not be erased. I attached a link of a jpgg pic showing these.

and of course I am attaching the new MGlogs zip file.

The computer is running a bit slow.. especially after restarting, but it may be that my cousin just has a lot of programs installed.

thanks again for the help! please tell me how to proceed. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Thanks again Kestrel13! !!

I did all of the final steps. One more thing though. This error (attached jpg) keeps popping up upon startup of windows. Can you tell me what I can do to get rid of it? I know its related to some program I uninstalled, I just want the error to go away.

Everything else seems to be working fine. Please let me know about that error. Thanks again!!

I could help, but I spend most of my time in this forum. Please feel free to visit the software forum for advice on the error. But I can assure you it is not malware related. :)
