    Hi everyone,

I have been experiencing problems with my pc for a couple of days now. I have Norton Antivirus, Spybot and adaware none of which seem to detect the problem or cure it. However Norton detects High Risk Program Controls occuring.

I have scanned with the above and also done an online scan with www.3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx which finds a file called bgates[1].exe and the infection name is Win32/DIStwoylegeneric. I have used various tools and cannot seem to get rid of it.

The computer restarts itself, and i am struggling to sort this problem. Any help will be very much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance
    Vix

Hi and welcome do please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
    • Bitdefender
    • Panda Scan
    • HijackThis

Thank you for the reply and your help. However i have come to a stand still with these steps.

I have followed the intructions as given, i ran CC cleaner, microsoft windows malicious software removal tool, adaware Se, and spybot in safemode. Adaware was the only one that found problems and removed 14 criticals. I then ran Counterspy in normal mode as i was unable to run in safe mode i have added the report as an attachment.

I also scanned with CWShredder and Kill2Me nothing was found.

Tried to run Bitdefender and then Panda Online scans, but the computer just reboots itself and will not continue these scans.

Please please help, before my computer takes flying lessons!!!!

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = prosearching.com
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = prosearching.com
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.google.co.uk/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchURL = prosearching.com
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = prosearching.com
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = prosearching.com
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = prosearching.com

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = prosearching.com
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = prosearching.com
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = prosearching.com
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
    O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.:

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

I want to run a couple other quick scans.

Now run the below procedure and attach the runkeys.txt log.
Now run the below procedure and attach the newfiles.txt log.

Hi thanks for the help. Followed all the steps above, requested logs included. I am still experiencing the same problems, computer reboots itself and states it has recovered from a serious error. When on the internet i get Program Control Popups from Norton Internet Security, e.g. Win2b.tmp.exe is attempting to connect to a DNS server, however the file name changes.

Start by downloading two tools we will need

    - Process Explorer

    - Pocket KillBox

Extract them to their own folder somewhere that you will be able to locate them later.

IMPORTANT: You should print or save the below locally, so you can refer to them while offline. You must exit all browsers before running the below steps and it would be best if you actually physically unplug your cable to the internet, reboot, and do not run anything but what I give you to do. Also it would be good to exit all processes and items in your System tray.

Do the above before continuing! Okay unplug your cable now.

Make sure you have rebooted in Normal Mode (do not open any other processes)

    - Run Process Explorer

In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of wineak32.dll once and then click the kill button. After you have killed all of the wineak32.dll under winlogon click ok. (If you do not find the dll, just continue on.)

Now repeat the above step for the below DLLs:
    qommjkj.dll
    tuvssqn.dll
    vturq.dll

Next double click on explorer.exe and again click once on each instance of wineak32.dll and kill it. (If you do not find the dll, just continue on.)

Now repeat the above step for the below DLLs:
    qommjkj.dll
    tuvssqn.dll
    vturq.dll

    Now just exit Process Explorer.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop.
Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files"
Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK! This will open a command prompt window. In the command prompt window enter the below commands each followed by the Enter key (note: the asterisks are important. Make sure you enter them as shown.)
    del %windir%\temp\win*.*
    del %windir%\temp\50.tmp
    del %windir%\temp\rem*.bat

    del C:\Documents and Settings\Emma\Local Settings\TEMP\jvm*.tmp
    del C:\Documents and Settings\Emma\Local Settings\TEMP\mso*.*

    exit

    Now run Pocket Killbox:
Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click OK.

Run Killbox.exe. Paste the below filenames into KILL BOX one at a time. Check mark the box that says "Delete on Reboot" and checkmark the box "Unregister DLL" (If available) Click the RED X and it will ask you to confirm the file for deletion…say YES and when the next box opens prompting you to reboot now...click NO...and proceed with the next file. Once you get to the last one click YES and it will reboot. Note some of the files listed below may not exist but we need to check for them anyway.

    C:\WINDOWS\winres.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\vturq.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qrutv.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qrutv.ini
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qrutv.ini2
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qrutv.bak
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qrutv.bak2
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qrutv.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qrutv.tmp2
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qommjkj.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\tuvssqn.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\wineak32.dll

If Killbox does not reboot or you get a Pending Operations type error message just reboot your PC yourself.

Now attach a new HJT log, and a new log from ShowNew and tell me how the steps went.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Many thanks for your help and time.

I have completed all the steps as directed, I had a problem with the command prompt section both of the C:\Documents and Settings\Emma\Local Settings\TEMP files could not be found i had the error, system cannot find path specified.

The system seems to be running better (so far) although a little slow on startup.

Have attached HJT log and Shownew log as required.

Many thanks again it is greatly appreciated.

Were you logged in as Emma? If not, it could be the reason for the error. Looks like the files are gone now anyway.

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6D794CB4-C7CD-4c6f-BFDC-9B77AFBDC02C} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\tuvssqn.dll (file missing)

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Ok all done, new HTJ log attached.

You will have to discuss this problem in the Software Forum. You may need to look at your Event log to see what it causing the crashes. They can help you with that.

You can also have HJT fix the below lines. They are not malware, but they are not necessary to load at startup:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
