This is getting rediculous now. I have been without internet for a few months on one of my two computers. I have one computer in my basement and one computer upstairs. The basement computer has cable internet connected directly to it and a router linking it to the one upstairs. A few months back, I lost the signal all together on the upstairs computer's antenna. I tried unplugging it and replugging it. It gives me a message that the IP address could not be found...but as far as I know there is one. I asked everyone I know and even posted on here before and nobody can help me. I would like my internet back, does anybody have ANY tips or clues to what the problem even might be?? PLEASE.

You have to provide more technical info, but here is what I gathered so far:
You have 2 PCs and a Wireless Router with Wired ports as well. The basement PC using the CAT-5 cable directly connects to the Router, the upstairs PC using a wireless Network Card (NIC) connects via wireless signals.
    Is that accurate so far?
What Operating Systems are you using? (especially on the one with no signal)
Have you tried to get the IP info by typing cmd /k ipconfig /all when you click on START > RUN ? < for xp, for Windows 9x Start > RUN > winipcfg
Does the Operating System of the upstairs PC see the NIC in the 'Device Manager'?
What type of NIC is installed on the upstairs PC? (USB, PCI, etc.)

    ...to be continued... ;)

if your on XP maybe the firewall is up? if you run xp? Not much info in that post.. what has changed about your setup. Play detective when did it work, what changed? New software? Move the pc?

If I read you right "The basement computer has cable internet connected directly to it " I am amazed it worked to begin with.. the cable modem should be connected to the router and the pc(s) connect to the router. What are you running 2 nics?

Ok best guesstimate .. windows firewall . Next I'd see if the wireless pc is recieving any signal (most have a program to tell signal strength). Make the wireless connect to any available network (ad hoc)...

    see what that does.

Turcoloco has it right, sorry if I don't give enough technical information but I don't know that much. The computer that has working internet (basement computer) has windows 98 and the one that does not have working internet (upstairs) has windows xp. As far as I know, nothing was changed...it just stopped working. I didnt move either of the computers, unplug anything, or install/uninstall any programs.

I am not able to understand a lot of the technical terms. Looks like I may just have to use only 1 computer from now on...

Have you recently loaded SP2 on the XP Machine? SP2 has a firewall which is turned on by default.

Did you or anyone in your house purchase any new appliances? If they did, did they set them up near the wireless computer? Could there be a signal interference?

Well, the only thing that might interfere with the signal would be a set of wireless phones located near the computer, but those have always been there and never gave me a problem before. I will take them away and check it out though.

If there was a firewall up/activated, how would I find out?

Check your task manager. Any programs running will show there unless their hidden. Like was mentioned earlier check your signal strength.

If the phones were there first, and you didn't have any problems then, then I doubt they are the problems.

If all else fails try moving the computer closer to the other one(same room?) and see if that helps. At least then if it doesn't work you'll know it isn't signal interference.

Try some research on signal hijackers. I read somewhere that your signal can be blocked or hiijacked. NOTE! I believe this is worst case!!!!!
