i originally started these scans because my AVG resident sheild picked up the following threats:

    C:\\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\ndis.sys
    C:\\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ndis.sys

i didn't know what they were and when i goggled the problem this was a top link.

    my problems were:

1.SUPERAntiSpyware crashed twice so i followed the instructions and skipped it and subsequently uninstalled it as it was not working.

    2. On my first try with ComboFix, it detected something called a 'rootkit' and rebooted.

    3. MGTools refuses to launch. Yes, it was picked up by AVG as a Trojan but try as i might, i could not get it to launch after multiple downloads.

i contemplated doing the Toggle Restore but opted to get an opinion before i did so.

my logs are attached but since SuperAntiSpyware and MGTools did not work, i only have the two from ComboFix and Malwarebytes.

i hope this is sufficient. if not, please guide me accordingly as i am a student and not really on the technical side of using and fixing my computer.

    thanks you.

    Hello, ari30

Did you disable AVG while you downloaded and ran MGTools, as instructed in the Wndows XP Cleaning Procedure?

For MGtools, did you save MGtools.exe to C:\MGtools.exe as requested. It must be save to the root folder of your Windows boot drive. Do not save it anywhere else and do not attempt to Run or Open it from the download link. You must save it to your PC. Please try again and make sure you follow the instructions exactly. If you get any error messages, see if it is one of the ones that are explained on the download page. If the error is not on the download page, give us the exact word for word message.

Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open a command prompt window. Enter the below commands at the command prompt each followed by the enter key. The bold black are commands. The red is merely informational.

cd \MGtools <-- this changes to the MGtools folder and the prompt should change to C:\MGtools>
GetRunKey <-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
ShowNew <-- this will try to run all another scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.

Also please disable all AV and AS software and then run this: GMER - running with a random name.

Attach the logs from GMER and the MGTools.zip. Describe any problems you are still having.

I finally managed to disable my AVG properly so MGTools finally ran.

Enclosed are the two logs which you asked for.

I have no other problems beside what I stated in my first post but now, after running GMER, my homepage, iGoogle refuses to open.

EDIT: after some poking and prodding, my homepage is opening fine now.

*Please move ComboFix.exe directly here -
C:\Documents and Settings\Adheena Maraj\Desktop as instructed in the Windows XP Cleaning Procedure

Your logs are clean and since you've replied that your problems are now fixed - it's time to do our cleanup steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double-click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work through the below link:
