    Welcome to MajorGeeks, dst :)

You should never run fixes intended for someone else's computer. This is why it did not work for yours.

    Follow these instructions:

http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/1263/frst.gif For 32-bit (x86) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
For 64-bit (x64) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

    Enter System Recovery Options.

To enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:
    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
    • Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account and click Next.

To enter System Recovery Options by using Windows installation disc:

    • Insert the installation disc.
    • Restart your computer.
    • If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc. If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check your BIOS settings.
    • Click Repair your computer.
    • Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account an click Next.
On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:
    • Select Command Prompt
    • In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.
    • The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
    • Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
    • In the command window type e:\frst.exe (for x64 bit version type e:\frst64) and press Enter
    • Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
    • The tool will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please attach this log to your next reply. (How to attach)

    Hi thisisu,

Many thanks for your help so far.

I have tried to follow your instructions but had to work around them slightly.

So when I start my system I get 3 options, Start Normally, Safe Mode, or Safe mode with Cmd prompt.
I selected the cmd prompt option.
I then opened diskmgmt.msc through that,
    then opened the Flash drive,
I opened FRST through h:frst.exe and then ran a scan from there.
I have attached the log file/report.

Again, thanks for your help and looking forward to your response.

    Hi,

The way you scanned does not produce a full log. If you are able to get into Safe Mode with Command Prompt, type in: explorer.exe
    This should launch Windows Explorer.
From there, you could transfer these applications from your flash drive onto the infected computer's desktop:

These 3 combined should remove the malicious items needed to get you back into Windows (from Normal Mode).

    Hi,

Well that seems to have got me back to a state or normality, many thanks for your help.

Would you recommend me doing anything else now that i am back into Windows normally?

I have Computer Associates Total Defense and I have had several problems on my Laptop while using that, do you think this product is actually worthwhile or should I switch to something else?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Peace to you,

    DST

    You're welcome.
You can go through this to make sure nothing else is lingering: READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide
I've never used Computer Associates Total Defense so I can't give you my opinion on it. If you say you have had problems while using it, perhaps you would like to read these threads:
