My nieces system was not runnning an antivirus for about a month. Suprisingly not many viruses in the system. She also had downloaded a program called SpyLock or something like that. It scanned the system an reported Spyware infections but wanted you to pay money to have the files removed.

Anyhow I ran all the scan as posted with exception to Biitdefender as I could not get connected to the site tonight.

    Thanks in advance!!!

Also in your opinion is there a better FREE Antivirus available then AVG for simplicity? How is the Kaspersky one?

AVG is one of the best. There is also Avast and Avira's Antivir ( see a list here: How to Protect yourself from malware! ) Kaspersky does not make a free antivirus. They only have a 30 day free trial.

This PC appears to be using an illegal copy of Windows and is attempting to bypass valid activation by using this

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: Antiwpa - antiwpa.dll (file missing)

which may be broken anyway. After we fix this PC and remove the above, you will have to get a valid license.

You must put this PC in normal startup mode using MSconfig. See step 0 of the READ ME. You are in selective startup mode.
Also you did not do step 2 of the READ ME.

Download HostsXpert and then follow the below steps.
    • Unzip HostsXpert.zip
[*]It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
[*]Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
      [*]click the Make Writeable? button.
[*]click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
[*]Click the X to exit the program

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4036843A-6FF5-4521-A8A3-6543C76BA1C9} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\uwj.dll (file missing)
    F3 - REG:win.ini: load=C:\WINDOWS\system32\ftuahtieuy\winlogon.exe
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4036843A-6FF5-4521-A8A3-6543C76BA1C9} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\uwj.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Jszcxe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\??sembly\smss.exe
    O4 - Startup: winlogon.lnk = ?
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: Antiwpa - antiwpa.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it
double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
    Now run Ccleaner!

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. Avenger
    2. GetRunKey
    3. ShowNew
    4. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    OK all has been completed...

System would appear to be running better. No file missing startup prompts.

I put Spyware aTerminator on the system to hopefully help keep some of the junk out.

    Here are the logs.

You need to attach the other two NEW logs I asked for from GetRunKey and ShowNew.

You need to remember to not run ShowNew while GetRunKey is running. This is stated in the READ ME. I see a whole load of .txt files in your C:\ folder from GetRunKey. They all begin with the letter x. If these are still there, you can manual delete them or you can rerun ONLY GetRunKey and it should remove them when it finishes running. If you run ShowNew before GetRunKey has been closed, those files will appear in the newfiles.txt log and we don't expect them to be there based on how we ask the tools to be run.

This logic applies to other scanners too! NEVER run any scanners in parallel. They will not only run much much much slower, but they can bump heads together making each not work properly.

Your logs are clean otherwise. You should however update to the proper current version of Spybot as given in the READ ME.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
