plug holes

stupid question but I want to record some sound on my computer and I don't know which plug to use for input there are Orange, red, pale green, blue,black the symbols are too small for me to read. I have wanted to do this for years , now maybe with your help I can thanks :-D oh and I do know which is mic plug, I want line input :confused

 

You/we would need to know what brand & model of sound card you have to be able to help you, or if it's an onboard sound device. If it's an onboard sound device then you should be able to look in the manual for your MB to find out what the different plugs are for.

On my sound card the blue is the line in.

Don't have a real good reference to this but here's what I have found:

Blue = Line in (600 ohms)
Green = Front speaker
Black = Rear speaker
Orange = Side speaker
? = Center speaker - Bass

If you want to record your voice in mono using a microphone you use mic input 'PINK' if you want to record music stereo from another device you use line input. 'BLUE' . Mic input is sensitive so it can pick up low power microphone signals,line input can handle larger power signals for clearer stereo sound for audio recording.

Assuming it is your voice you want to record plug your mic into the mic input 'PINK' then go to start menu,accessories,sound recorder,hit record and talk.

I goofed and left out PINK. Pink = Mike in and is bout 200 Ohms. Some mikes do not match 200 and seldom do you find one that matches 600 ohms. To use 600 Ohms you would usually have to use a Preamp.
