anybody else have difficulty keeping a PM to 1500 characters? makes for constructive editing but i lose the 'flavor' of what I'm trying to say. short and sweet is not really my style :). are those of you that don't allow email frightened of something? and if so what? i have post my email addy, and apart from endless spam in my bulk folder, have never had a problem related to this site. much aloha

Always..... you should see some of the PMs I send, they end up 3 PM parts long :)

As to some not wanting to accept Emails, maybe some like there email address private unless they hand it out via a PM to someone they want to chat/talk to rather than get anon email from all unsundary?

In part, it is to stop people who decide to tell us their life story, followed by a Hijack This log file because they dont grasp the concept that the forums are for help, to assist others who need help, so going private wastes a lot of valuable time. IMHO, if you become so close with someone, you will share emails, if your not sharing emails, then maybe they dont want 1500 character letters :) Since were a technical help forum first, things that help us answer questions take priority over casual chat. Hope that explains it some :)

I personally don't make my e-mail available to everyone because once I did (not through MGs though) and one guy took it down, added it to his address book. One day he decided to e-mail everyone in his address book an mp3 he liked. With my system being slow it nearly killed it and took ages to d/l the thing before I could d/l the e-mail I really wanted to read. When I mailed him and asked 'who are you' and 'don't do that again' (though not as politely as that!) he said "Well you are in my e-mail address book so you must have given it to me, so I'll send what I want!". Go figure!

Basically, if anyone I know wants my e-mail, as Halo said, they can PM and I will happily provide it :)

She was asleep one night and she had this tiny whistling noise coming from one of her nostrils; I played Yankee-Doodle on her left nostril for about 10 minutes before she woke up :D

Explanation was great and appriciated! How are you going to hide it from Abby? How is the weather in your area? :)

Not much chance of that...she's sitting over at the other end of the table from me ;)

A couple of t-storms just blew through (big shock :D), but nothing to worry about here; we are near the top of the state, the turbine is down at the bottom :)

You'll excuse me for cutting out so abruptly; I just got a downlink from work and apparently the world is ending :D

This is why they invented webmail!

I always scanned my webmail prior to download when I was on dl, and forwarded what I did not want to Gmail.

    Gmail invites still are available.

Did I miss something, or is the above email totally out of place???? :)

thanks for all the replies guys (and girls), and thank you MA for the explanation. i find that the only time i PM people is when I've read something that has touched me in the lounge and need to reply on a personal level. i thought that was what 'private messages' were for. as far as giving out email addy's, i understand the reticence, but i have to say that this being the geek site, i trust the people here to be at least respectful of my puter if nothing else lol. its not until after I've typed my piece that I'm told it's too long....and then I'm stuck as to how to shorten it. in future i will try and remember to skip the letter and simply ask permission to email. aloha all

I did not mean for it to be out of place!

My apologies if it looked so. I remember a "friend" who always sent out these 6-7 MB video files. Looking at email on webmail (if available) allowed the long download to be managable....

Again sorry if it looked out of line.
