All is well....:highfive There is another verse and I don't know it well enough to even semi-qoute it. It deals with who we are to obey here on earth.
    Back on topic.
We have been given laws to follow, other than the laws of God. (God allowed us to be governed by man's laws when the Hebrew people wanted a king to rule them. (Samuel Chapter 8))
Some are not good, the PC ones for example are a waste of time for everyone. But laws are laws and meant to followed. If we don't like them, we must get them changed and not decide which ones we will abide by.

Of course, I'm sure 'boobies' isn't politically correct.

That is the only reason Baywatch lasted. At least I think so, as I never listened to it for a story.

And politically correct or not, it sure is a fun word :D

the hawaiians have an odd sense of humour. they simply find EVERYTHING funny. i tend to like the ironic, but i sometimes have problems with people taking me seriously. ( in england it was the opposite, i couldn't get people to take me seriously sometimes)

i don't think about being politically correct. i am no good at politics. i 'speak my truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant.'
    .
    .
    .
'cept that its not always quietly. :)
    .
    .
    .
    and i don't always listen. :)

    but other than that yes.

i don't care if i am politically correct either. i am kind. so it would be unlikely for me to say something truely insulting.

    mostly. :)

Only some points that don’t appear to have been considered in this thread that would be considered in a proposal re why “It's not OK to call a prostitute a prostitute”:

    • Should a person who has been made to engage in certain acts by being assaulted or intimidated to be induced to act, or continue to act, as a prostitute have to remain with the stigma of being labelled a “prostitute”?

    • Don’t prostitutes (proper term “sex workers”) have the rights to life, safety, free speech, political action and access to information and to basic health and education services that are as important to sex workers as to anyone else? No one should lose these human rights because of the work they do.

(The change also goes towards these type of rights.)

    • What of young people (or older and wiser) who want to change their lives to a better one, should their lives be ruined with the stigma of having been a prostitute (due to any reason)?

Such a change would affect these type of persons. For those in the know, even Jesus showed compassion towards Mary Magdallen.

While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, people should also think carefully when it comes to stigmas and more so why laws need to be current and not left in the dark ages.

The debate of change isn’t only occurring in UK, it is occurring internationally, so don't expect it to go away any time soon.

Well, that's my two cents worth...you can carry on with your debating because it won't change my views...;)

    Cheers

Actually legalsuit if you read the full gospels accredited to the Jewish/Hebraic Christians, there is some evidence that indeed the Rabbi Jesus Christ was infact married to Mary Magdalene, in the least she was his favoured apostle. This according to the "Gnostic Gospels" uncovered in Nag Hammadi in 1945, in which there was a "Gospel of Mary" and a "Act of Philip", with back-up support found in the Greek Orthodox Church which celebrates Mary Magdalene every July 22. The fact that she was labelled a "prostitute" only appears in the Roman Latin Translations of the "Gospels" from which most of the common English Bible's come from, and as anybody who has studied "Ancient Languages" knows they were simplistic; one word could have many varying meanings. A good example is Native Hawaiian and the word "Aloha" which has numerous meanings.

The basic fact is still that words, have different connotations even in the descriptive English Language. As I pointed out earlier I can use the word Aussie or Canuck and give it a derogatory slur just by my vocal inflections. Its the thought process and inflections which we do not have with the typed word, that cause so much consternation to most. Just look at the "Court Room" antics then read the transcripts, two totally different impressions can be correctly assumed.

If I have Hatred and Bigotry in my heart, but know that if I say it I will be punished, does that mean that even though I say the "Correct" words I am not a Bigot who Hates others unlike myself............I think not

Most of us waste to much time and effort reading meanings into others words, when we should just accept people for who they are and what they do. A person's actions tell me much more about who they are, than the words that come from their mouths. And as has been pointed out here, this has been going on since "Biblical Times" and before.

Aloha (and you can translate that anyway you want:D)

Actually, if you want to go down that path, B.C.G. The Gnostic writings, as well as many of the other so-called 'forgotten' books were written many years after Jesus' death, and highly debatable, to say the least.

There is no direct evidence that Jesus was ever married, had children, or had anything other than very close friendships with anyone. And yes, I know all about the Gnostics, the Gospels of Philip, Enoch, Adam, Thomas, etc., etc., and Dan Brown's, largely fictional DaVinci Code.

Anyone interested:- This is a nice link to most of the 'forgotten books'.

    http://reluctant-messenger.com/lost_forgotten_books.htm

Mary Magdalene was a favored disciple, yes, but there is no real evidence of anything more.

I agree , but one step further. Most words which are considered derogatory or even words with good connotations can be said in a way that gives an opposite meaning. My wife calls me a geek but means it as a term of endearment. :heart
On the other hand, there are words one race or group of people can use to one another in brotherly terms, while the same words used in exactly the same way, with the same intent, with the same inflections, are derogatory. I was a "snipe" in the navy, proud to be one and liked to be refered to as one, but a "deck ape" or "brown shoe" had better be aware, if they called me one.:boxing

i dont get it. am i missing something? change the word prostitute to 'theif' and then tell me that:

    1, its just a job.
2, there shouldn't be a stigma attached to it.

jesus, by the way, also forgave thieves and murderers, so thats not really a criteria for acceptance.

i am not saying that prostitution is as morally bad as stealing (although there are some that would), just that it is an 'alternative' source of income, NOT covered by the usual legal and financial restrictions.
there are some that have been forced/pressured into this life, as there are some thieves that have, but for the majority it is a choice.

Great Post Phantom and Thanks for the link, right now Ancient Books has become a part time Hobby (No expert, but amassing more knowledge on text that were published in the past and there authors)

Second qoute first; Dan Brown's book is a great Fictional read, his research data sheet is impressive, but it is just a story meant to entertain, and possibly make you think about something you felt you knew.

First Quote; Studies of the "Gnostic Writings" seems to support the fact that they were indeed part of the Hebrew Christian writings that we now call the "Bible". Various Dating techniques that have been used also support this. If memory serves me correctly with the exception of the "Old Testament" which was written before Jesus' time, all the "New Testament" has been established to have been written after Jesus' time. Now don't get me wrong I am not saying the "Gnostic Writings" nor infact the established writings are factual or correct. Hey Biblical man loved parables and good stories like we do Dan Brown's, Chrichton's or Michner's stories.

Thanks again Phantom as usual your post's are both thought provoking and informative, and I just had to add what I have learned to date, and must add that it is just my opinion which is always subject change with new input.

"With confidence in our armed forces, with the

Most of us have heard this speech by President Roosevelt. There are 4 words missing. I do not know if it is due to political correctness but soon there will be many things missing words, that WILL be due to PC.
The most important being history books.

The 4 missing words at the end of the speech are: "so help us God."

Its not ok to call a child a retard thats why he was in court its just wasnt enough for him to be charged with child abuse and lose his job ect. ect. the fact that it was in court at all will send a strong enough message

I cant believe they are wasting time even thinking about what prostitution is called it isnt gonna change what people think of them and what they are gonna say if they want to insult them,I can think of a few other choice words off the top of my head that mean the same thing,if they want to keep prostitutes feelings safe relocate them all to where no one has ever heard of them or build a time machine go back and persuade them not to start :D

Just an FYI that the word "retard" is not used in the same very offensive way it is in the UK. It caught me unawares when I first moved here Rikky, especially since my work was in special educational needs and you would just NOT use that word unless you wanted firing. In fact you wouldn't even use the word spasticated or handicapped to describe someone with phsyically difficulties, yet I have heard it a lot here. Still makes me wince everytime.

The word itself means to cause to move or proceed slowly; delay or impede.
It has been used by doctors to describe mental conditions. Our computers become retarded when viruses are introduced. When used derogatorily it can be hurtful. When used as a descriptive it is just another word.

I think PC for the most part is required, in situations where individuals are being hurt or discriminated against. For example, if today, "minorities" were finally allowed to sit in the front of the bus or enter any restaurant they please, some people would say political correctness is going too far. Most of us know that this isn't the case in this example, but when it happened in the past many people felt differently.
A person in authority calling someone a retard is highly offensive and I wonder how approriate is is to have someone like that teaching kids. All the other kids in that class now think it's ok to call someone a retard. I wouldn't be surprised if that kid came to school the next day with an arsenal...you know the rest. Words do hurt people as much as sticks and stones, the damage is just not evident right away.
PC goes too far when events such as Christmas have to be hidden. It's not hurting anyone, even if it is offensive to some. In reality in this example, those on both sides of the fence need to be tolerant of others ideals and not force their views on each other. Having said that I think I have alluded to religion being the most politically incorrect institution out there. Or, is political correctness itself politically incorrect?

Yep, true that most of the New Testaments were written posthumously A little O.T. (off topic, not Old Testament, lol), here, but here is a whole heap of time-line charts, of both B.C.E. and C.E. times. And yep, a lot of Gnostic writings and followers did get wiped out, as they were considered ‘the opposition' after Emperor Constantine’s official adoption of Christianity.

    http://www.biblediagrams.com/diagrams/timeline/index.htm

At the end of the day, spiritual any quest is by its nature, a personal one. Like you said, people like to think they have some kind of unique, special knowledge (e.g. when the world will end; the future of humanity, etc.). You don't need to be Christian to know the truth behind "Beware of false Prophets". But, I digress here. This topic could take an entire forum in itself. ;)

Wonderful post by BCG ;). The youth (that would be me) are getting softer and softer in every sense. One would think that we live in a world where noone has fault. Once upon a time being stupid was just being stupid, the same for being a prostitute, a thieve or a prisoner. Today we blame our genes, the System, the Society anyone that cannot be punished. In the name of Liberalism and Democracy we forgive everything to everyone. Kids tearing apart the city centre every now and then, so what it's their right to protest. But if the police kicks a couple of those hooligan @$$es it means we're back to the medieval.
Not to mention the ethical crack-up that follows the Western easy-living. People think history equals to nationalism (worst thing ever for most) and God is believed to be a tyrant from whom we have to free ourselves by challenging his authority.
If you try to stand against this decadence and say that the old ways were better you are automatically a fascist, a backwards old fool.

LS. i have grave missgivings about our current legal system, but great hopes for the future. eventually we must differentiate between victimless 'crimes',
and the actions of those that pray on us. as our societies merge and a more universal recognition of 'right' and 'wrong' comes into being, one would assume that a great many things once considered illegal will be come acceptable, and vice versa.

LauraB, Your comments are pretty well voice throughout and understandably too...hence need to ensure such old legislation (from 1800's) goes under review. Some points of consideration that would go into a proposal for change that I noted in my post have a lot more to them in the background (so one needs to understand why such considerations are taken up).

Is communism. It's just another way the government is controlling our lives, or maybe some of you don't see that.

I should say this and I shouldn't say that......What do you like to call it?

    It's communism.

Government removing God and religion from society and from history...What do you call it?

    It's communism.

Slowly but surely we are headed in that direction.

Our founding fathers foresaw this happening, but they are slowly being lost in todays society because they were God fearing individuals and they were of the white race, and spoke english.

True - but it has been taken to an extreme degree by some. The founding fathers' intention was to bar the government from establishing a "national" religion. Uncle Sam can't tell you how and who to worship, or to worship at all.

As far as communism goes - it's a failed ideology, pure and simple. I don't think political correctness is communism . . . I in fact can't see the point there. I think Tarquin said it best: Political correctness is the enemy of truth.

In some ways PC is in the process of being reversed to suit the minorities, i agree they should have some protection against exploitaion but my personal felling is it has gone too far.

I am white and little bit more than middle age with a good standard of living(for which i worked hard for) but now the protectionists feel we need to give in to every minority group on the planet.

here in Belgium we have a very large Muslim community( i am not picking on them it's just an example) the majority live in the capitol Brussels purely because the main language is French and most of them originate from French speaking Marocco, they have their own schools/churches/doctors and communities.

the main point i will make is the legislation has been changed to accommodate their eating habits.

If we Europeans were to slaughter animals in the Halal tradition there would be legal repercussions but the Muslim faith is exempt.

I spent some considerable time in the USA before my accident and saw reverse discrimination at it's peak.

i love BigMacs and on one occasion in Miami i was refused service in a hamburger joint when i asked the reason i was told it was only African Americans (see i can't use the B word) the exact words he used were ( THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR HONKIES) now to me that is an offensive term but i have no recourse to law but if i had said N****** i would have been in the :crap:crap

The ironic thing is that one of the aims political correctness is to ensure equality. Which is rather unrealistic. All it actually achieves is goal posts which are moving constantly. So often in fact that some of them have probably had wheels fitted.

In a perfect world there would be equality. But it's never going to be perfect. I agree people deserve protection from outright persecution, but I'm not into the idea of 'positive discrimination'. Discrimination is exactly that, no matter what word or words are put in front of it.
If there's one certain thing in this world it's this. Everyone in it has been or will be discriminated against in one form or another.

If political correctness carries on as it has done so far, it may well mean that every word known to the human race will be banned in case someone takes offence at it.

My suggestion for anyone who feels offended by something that's been said by another person is this. Get over it or get some therapy.
