Poor CPU performance, several breakdowns

Discussion in 'Malware Help (A Specialist Will Reply)' started by Help-is-needed-quickly, Sep 21, 2006.

  1. Hi,
I have followed (at least tried to), your preliminary download instructions and tests, that involves downloading HijackThis, Windows Defender, Spybot, KillBox and a few others, but Im not really confident with the outcome/installation.

I will try to attach my test-results however you probably will find them not to your liking, cause I havent done all you asked, since I simply cant figure out how to procede.

A little bit about the issue:
My computer is running terribly slow at the moment. It runs with a 100% CPU usage on small asignments, explorer.exe, Norton Antivirus.
Those two at the same time will often get to crack.

Im curious whether I have some malware installed that causes the problem, or maybe you could take a look on my list of start-up programs. Could I delete some?
And further tell me what to do.. I want to delete every file that is useless. However I need assistence since I have tried many years earlier to start erasing files from WINDOWS. Not a good idea.

    Help is needed.
    THANKS

Did you try and run the online scans. Panda activescan and bitdefender. These are pretty straightforward and you should have no problems with them.

  3. hallo again,
I have attached the BitDefender report. It didnt find any viruses.
I couldnt run PandaActive, cause while doing so, my computer crashed - and locked completely.

Anything else on programs/files I can erase for good??

    thanks.

Did you get an error when you ran shownew. your shonew log is incomplete.

See Using ShowNew for details on how to fix this error

  5. I didnt get any error messages while running.. The first time.. Nor the second.
However I have attached a new report.

Still no idea of a program that erases everything that Im not using or wont need.

Please can you rename HijackThis.exe to Analyze.exe as per step 7 of the read and run me, some malware trys to hide from HijackThis and then post a new log.

Are you having any other symptons apart from slowness ? I'd be inclined to think that you don't have a malware issue at this point and might consider posting in the Software forum where more people would be able to help you try and get things running better.

  7. You could have a point there. That I might not even have any malware on the computer. I have been running several tests, and they all more or less come out clean.

However Im gonna post a hijackthis for you to take a look at..

then I'll probably go to the software forum..
    thanks anyway

you still havn't renamed HijackThis as is needed. But it doesn't matter.

For now i'd suggest popping over to the software forum and seeing if they have an advice on speeding things up.

One of the first suggestions will probably be getting rid of norton but you can deal with that over there.
