poor sound - Audigy 2

For some reason the right rear output on my audigy 2 is producing a distorted/garbled sound. I've checked the speakers and cables and it's definately coming from the sound card.


The funny thing is, when I update drivers it sounds great, but then a few days later it's back to making the crackling, distorted sound it was before.

What could be causing this? For the first two or three days after updating soundcard drivers the problem is fixed, but it always comes back.

 

Wow. That's really wierd! I'll try to research it and see what comes up. Maybe there's a whacko bug in the newer drivers(?). I dunno. Maybe try an older driver; like one that was released before you bought your card but for the same model.... I dunno. This is wierd.

it seems that it only fixes the sound when I install new drivers. If I install old ones, or reinstall the new ones the distortion is still there.. but the last two times they released new drivers it was fixed for a couple of days.



BTW, I've had this soundcard for quite some time now.. I'm thinking ~three years. It only started doing this about six months ago.

 

anyone? I haven't had a lot of time to troubleshoot this myself. But I have narrowed it down and tried fixing it from the software end..


I'm begining to get the feeling that I might as well start saving for a new sound card at this point. It just seems weird to me that it was shortly fixed both times Creative released new drivers, yet it continues..
