Pop ups and Ads

I'm using Opera and have noticed just recently that at my home page there are numerous useless and unwanted Ads/banners. The same when I access other pages, like right here, there is a useless (to me) ad about bras. Is there a way to get rid of this annoyance or do I need software that will block the Ads?

You can also block pop-ups in Opera by changing the settings.

Eldon, thanks for the heads up on Adblock Plus. I see it actively showing the number being blocked, just one concern, even here on MG I still get an ad at the top of the page.

I ran IObit Malware fighter, mbar, Malwarebytes and Adwcleaner and still get the intrusions. Adwcleaner displayed a registry entry called Zugo so I deleted it, but now I get an error message "VPROTECT APPLICATION" has stopped working.

I tried two different system restores, but twice it says the restore did not complete and no files were changed. May I request some more suggestions please?

Howmanator, I use Fanboy's TPL (Tracking Protection List) in Internet Explorer. A little known fact is TPLs are also adblockers.

You add it and forget it.

Regarding Zugo that was deleted by Adwcleaner, can you not restore it from within Adwcleaner?
