Popups and Adware still killing my system after Cleaning Malware

I ran all the steps in Read&Run Me First.... still have popups as I type this! The only step I wasn't able to complete was running second half of #6 (Panda ActiveScan) because every time it says "error on page" and clicking on "Local Drives" does not help. Here are all my logs attached. And a HJT log. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My computer seems to have been infiltrated with an outrageous number of viruses. Even after running everything from AdAware, Spybot, and CounterSpy, Bitdefender still showed many more viruses. Yet, more popups still keep coming. Especially when I use IE, popups from Mozilla come up constantly. Eventhough no Mozilla windows have been open since last restart!
I am using a Dell Ispiron 4000 Pentium III 902 MHz Laptop with Windows XP SP2. 128 MB of RAM.

There are couple more attachments that will be placed in a response below.
Thanks for all the help! If you need any more info that I haven't provided, let me know.

    Re: Remaining log file attachments

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

First download HOSTER and then follow the below steps.
    • Unzip Hoster to a convenient folder such as C:\Hoster
    • Run Hoster.exe, click Restore Original Hosts and then click OK.
    • Click the X to exit the program
Then run the below procedure and attach the requested log:

    Look2Me VX2 Removal

Now attach a new HJT log and also tell me how things are working!

Followed your directions, thank you very much. Here are the logs. At least in the last five minutes, no popups! Computer is still running very slowly. I'll try a Defrag I guess. Any other suggestions? If this is the last step of Malware Removal, should i go back and complete Step 1 of the Read&Run post (Disable System Restore temporarily After Malware has been removed)?

Look2Me Destroyer.txt file is too big for attachment, so here it is:

That log was not too big to attach. The .txt file size limit is 250K and you are not even close to that. I attached it for you.

You still have some problems to fix but first a question. Do you know what the below is for?
O23 - Service: Windows VisFx Components - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\bkhmsvc.exe (file missing)

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.Begin2Search.com/search.html
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VVSN] C:\Program Files\VVSN\VVSN.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Sysnet] C:\DOCUME~1\default\LOCALS~1\Temp\sysnet.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [pftiez] c:\windows\system32\hdkize.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [irssyncd] C:\WINDOWS\system32\irssyncd.exe
    O9 - Extra button: Dell Home - {EE117DAA-A30B-40FC-945C-38AE1B80C1FA} - http://www.dellnet.com (file missing) (HKCU)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: OPenGLdrivers - C:\WINDOWS\system32\fpj0031me.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
C:\Documents and Settings\default\Local Settings\Temp <--- delete all files and subfolders in this Temp folder
    C:\Program Files\VVSN <--- delete this folder
    c:\windows\system32\hdkize.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\irssyncd.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

    chaslang,
I do not indeed know what "O23 - Service: Windows VisFx Components - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\bkhmsvc.exe (file missing)" is for.

As for the other items, I will go ahead and follow the directions. Thank you very much for your help.
As for the current status of how everything is working:
-all popups have ceased so far.
-computer is still working rather slowly. I ran defrag last night, and have yet to do the steps you just last wrote. Should i fix the 023 -Service: also? Just let me know. I will proceed now with the above directions and post another HJT log.

    while following your last directions:
    1. C:\Documents and Settings\default\Local Settings\Temp <--- delete all files and subfolders in this Temp folder
    - - two of the files in this directory were not allowed to be deleted because they were being used by another user or program. When i went to the Task Manager, it is not obvious which program this could be. Hidden files are viewable, and neither file is a Read Only. The two files were
    • ~DFD5d.tmp and ~DFFB4F.tmp
    2. C:\Program Files\VVSN <--- delete this folder
    - - This folder does not exist. I did a search of the entire C:\ even looking for hidden folders.
    3. c:\windows\system32\hdkize.exe
    - - This file does not exist. Searched entire C:\ as well.
    4. C:\WINDOWS\system32\irssyncd.exe
    - - File existed. Now deleted.
    5. Prefetch folder deleted.
    6. Web settings refreshed
    7. New HJT log attached.

Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'. On the page that opens, scroll down to Windows VisFx Components... then right click the entry, select 'Properties' and press 'Stop Service'. When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the 'Start-up Type' to 'Disabled'. Press 'OK' until you get back to Windows.

Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the "None of the above, just start the program" button at the bottom of the choices. At the lower right, click on the 'Config" button, and then the Misc tools' button ... select 'Delete an NT Service" ... copy/paste the following into the box that opens, and press "OK":

    Windows VisFx Components

If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.

Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.

Look in Add/Remove programs for any of the below and uninstall if found:
    PrivacyScanner
    Privacy Champion
    Sysnet
    VisFx

Now to make sure the Privacy Champion process is removed, Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PrivacyScanner] C:\Program Files\Privacy Champion\pscan.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete (if found):
    C:\Program Files\Privacy Champion <-- the whole folder
    C:\ProgramFiles\CMAPP <-- the whole folder
    C:\ProgramFiles\asys <-- the whole folder
    C:\WINDOWS\bkhmsvc.exe

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.

Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

So from the above selections... i deleted the VisFx. Only Sysnet was found, so i deleted it. And i removed C:\Program Files\asys.
All other instructions were followed. So far, I'm very happy that there are no signs up popups or spyware. I am very grateful for this! You should get a promotion for all your help!
My only concern with the computer still is that the startup is very slow and opening programs takes a long time. From the time I click on the User when WIndows is starting to the time HJT opened (for the final step), it took 20 mins. Any suggestions?

You're remaining issues do not appear to be related to malware. They are more than likely just due to what is loading at startup. Let's begin by getting a few questions answered.
    1. Have you ever considered adding more RAM to your PC? 128M is really too low! Especially with WinXP SP2 and only a 902Mhz processor.
    2. Is CounterSpy a paid version or free trial?
    3. Is Ewido a paid version of free trial version?
    4. Do you need the Columbia University\CU & NYP VPN CLIENT stuff to load? Are you actually using this to obtain remote access to the PC.
    5. Do you use the Microsoft Works Portfolio tool. It lets you collect and organize text and pictures from the Web or your favorite program. It can be prevented from starting by using a setting within Portfolio. This program is not required to start automatically as you can run it when you need to. It is advised that you disable this program so that it does not take up system resources.
    6. Do you really need the [Yahoo! Pager] C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\ypager.exe It is a waste of system resources.
    7. Do you use MS Works Calendar? This produces a pop-up reminder of events scheduled using the MS Works Calendar.
    8. Do you really need the C:\Program Files\Sierra Imaging\Image Expert 2000\IXApplet.exe for your digital camera to always load. This program is not required to start automatically as you can run it when you need to. It is advised that you disable this program so that it does not take up necessary system resources.
Now some quick things to do right now that can help speed startup.
    1. In the System Tray, there is an icon for RealPlayer. You should stop this from loading by right-clicking on the tray icon and disabling StartCenter via Preferences!
    2. Run HijackThis and have it fix the below lines! None of these are necessary and just waste system resources:
      • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Update Detection] C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WkDetect.exe
      • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
      • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe" <--- this one may come back after running iTunes a few times
      • O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
      • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
      • O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
Did fixing these help at all?
Also make sure you answer all my questions.

You still have to install a firewall on your PC and it will require use of system resources too and will impact startup time. This is however necessary for your security. We will discuss this more lated.

    Answers to your questions:

Yes i have thought about adding more, but didn't know if that was a major problem with my computer. I guess it is. Looks like i'll have to do that ASAP.

Is CounterSpy a paid version or free trial? free trial
Is Ewido a paid version of free trial version? free trial
Do you need the Columbia University\CU & NYP VPN CLIENT stuff to load? Are you actually using this to obtain remote access to the PC.
Used to use it few months ago, but now I don't use it, and I don't mind getting rid of it.
Do you use the Microsoft Works Portfolio tool. It lets you collect and organize text and pictures from the Web or your favorite program. It can be prevented from starting by using a setting within Portfolio. This program is not required to start automatically as you can run it when you need to. Have no real need for it. Can't recall using it.
Do you really need the [Yahoo! Pager] C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\ypager.exe It is a waste of system resources.
I think my brother used it when he had this computer. Don't need it anymore, and if its going to save resources, I'd like it off.
Do you use MS Works Calendar? This produces a pop-up reminder of events scheduled using the MS Works Calendar.
    Don't use it

I noticed that it starts at Startup, but would like to get rid of it. Know how?

What about the second part of my previous message? Did you fix those other items? Did it help at all? If you did not do those fixes yet, do them.

Then attach a new HJT log and also:

Let's get an installed programs list from HijackThis too!
    • Run HijackThis, click Open the Misc Tools section
    • Click Open Uninstall Manager
    • Click Save List (generates uninstall_list.txt)
    • Click Save, to save it to a file where you can find it.
    • Attach the uninstall_list.txt file to your next message.
