Popups and Slow Performance

Been having problems for the last week with popups and slow performance - been through the Read me and windows cleaning procedure and that's cleared all sorts of horrible looking stuff off and things are better but the popups are still there. They're mostly adverts which all seem to startd CiD in the blue title line at the top.

PC is used by both my kids and a very computer illiterate wife none of whom can be told and therein lies my problem - while I'm very careful about downloading programs addins and opening attachments in emails and messages they seem to think it's just not an issue and if there's a problem dad'll fix it, which, I'm hoping is where you guys come in :)

    Attached are logs as directed.

    Hoping you can help
    Cheers

    Russ

You are allowing every user to have administrative privileges....not a wise idea.

    Please Disable Spybot's TeaTimer

    * Run Spybot and click Mode
    * Select Advanced Mode.
    * Then click Tools and select Resident.
    * Now in the right window pane, uncheck TeaTimer.
    * Also while this is open, in the left column now select IE Tweaks
    * and then in the right pane make sure all the Miscellaneous locks are unchecked.
    * Now quit Spybot!

We no longer support a-squared...you can use add/remove programs to uninstall it. It is reporting far too many false positives.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Please use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\2 tray tick inside
    C:\Program Files\Fordeachlite

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file.

    Hi Tim

Thanks for getting back so quickly, have been away for weekend here so first opportunity to reply.

Anyway, went through your instructions and log file attached, only problem I had was disabling anti virus. I'm running Norton 360 and there isn't a way to temporarily disable it that I can find. Did a google search and all I found out was that most people seem to think it's a Pile of :crap and that I wasn't wrong when I couldn't find a way to disable it. Hope that that's not caused any problems.

    Thanks for your help

    Russ

If Norton is a paid for version....you should probably keep it till you have to renew it...

Your logs are clean...let's do some final cleaning from the scans you ran:

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure you get a successful message, if not please tell me.

    1. You can uninstall SUPERAntiSpyware now.
    2. We recommed you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a scanner. It uses no resources except a little disk space until you run a scan.
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combo-fix folder from combofix.
    4. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    5. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    6. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    7. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    8. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    9. If we had you run RenV.exe, you can delete it and the Log.txt file on your Desktop.
    10. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    11. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    12. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    13. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    14. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    15. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    16. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
