Are the popups happening in all browsers?

There are two things to remove and we will see if that helps.

Use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\temp1600
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\temp1601

Then Run this: Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\MGlogs.zip

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hi TimW

The popups seem to happen only in Firefox, Did not notice this before as it's the only browser i tend to use, Spent 10 mins spamming favourites in IE and had no popups, After 6 bookmark clicks on FF i had 2 popups.

Searched for, found and deleted both files:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\temp1600
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\temp1601

I then used the remove tool for Windows Messenger with the options: Disable Machine Wide, Hide and Uninstall checked.

Ran CCleaner, Then ran the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

After the steps above and with no other scans etc, The popup issue is still the same.

You mention that Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups, Is MSN Messenger any better in comparison?

Thankyou for your time and help TimW

Can I assume that under tools/ options / content/ you have block pop ups checked?

That is correct, In FF tools/ options / content/ block popup windows is checked.

Then I can only assume that your bookmarks are infected links....not necessarily malware, but the cause of the pop ups. Let me know if having removed them stops the issue.

Ok uninstalled FF, Deleted the Mozilla folder in programs then ran CCleaner, Reinstalled FF, imported nothing from IE etc.
With no bookmarks using Google (in FF)i navigated to this forum and did a search for this post, Even on this site with no bookmarks all i have to do is click foreword or back a page to activate the popunders.
No idea if it helps but ive atatched a note with a list of the sites from the popups/unders. Allso i have noticed it usually happens between 7/10 mouse click's.
I really do apretiate the help, Im not sure if the cause of the popups is Malware, Im getting the impression its going to be something like an install or incorrect settings, This would explain why the read and run and following scans produce nothing significant? I dont have the experience to fully understand the logs produced but... I am trying :-o.

    Thank's again for the help

You have to do more than just uninstall the folder. Here are the steps to totally remove it:
    Uninstalling Firefox

    Hi again :)

Followed the instructions on the link provided to the letter, uninstalled FF with add and remove again, This time i not only removed the Mozilla folder in program files but allso removed the others mentioned in the uninstall walkthrough.
After this i then did a search for : Mozilla, found and deleted a further 11 folders/items, Allso did a search for : Firefox found and deleted a couple more, Repeated the search again for both just to be certain and found nothing, Then ran CCleaner (clean and reg cleaner) hopefully to flush any reg/temp files etc.
Using IE i downloaded FF again, Installed it and searched for this post again, flicked back and forth and after about 10 clicks ...Doh same again, another 10 or so clicks gave the same result. I then repeated my actions in IE and again no popups at all, Frustraiting as im not to keen on IE and have used FF for years on many machines :( and never had this kind of problem.

I will repeat the uninstall walkthrough severall times to be sure there is nothing i missed etc, This whole situation is quite interesting, im sure the clues are there im obviously missing something.

I can only thank you for your patience and determination, I can only imagine how you must feel.

If you are downloading the newest version of FF, without issues in IE and having done a thorough uninstall, I would contact FF and see if there is anyone else reporting this issue. :(

There is always the possibility it is the latest version. You might try using an older version to see if that makes a difference.
