I am having trouble with soulseek and BitTorrent .
I have successfully forwarded my ports many times, on many different computers, for many different people, but now i am having trouble on my own machine, here at home. When i run the "check ports" tests, on the above mentioned apps, they both tell me that my ports are closed, yet when i go iinto my router with my password, i can clearly see that the ports have been forwarded (by me) . The port numbers match on the applications and within my router (2Wire 3800 HGV-B). I am running Windows XP SP 3 . I have totally deleted within my router these apps and re-entered all the information, i have tried everything i can think of to get this problem resolved, yet i cant figure it out. As a result of this, my file transfer speeds are painfully slow.

Just looking for a little help, here, been working on this for 3 days now .
    Thanks !

    ;)

    Hi FED UP,

Im not sure about bit torrent or the other proggy, but utorrent auto adds its entry into the windows firewall/exception tab. if the firewall is off, turn it back on and reboot the pc. If the firewall is on, turn it off and reboot the pc.

Ok. I am running the test right now. If my ISP is throttling my data traffic, then they JUST started doing so within the last week, but my port(s) should still be open if i opened them, shouldnt they ? Also, I never use the default ports for the apps, and did not change the ports before this problem. I didnt change anything concerning my ports. I did, however, recently have a malware problem "Relevant.Knowledge" but somehow doubt that is the source of the problem i am having now. I suppose it is possible i am having a malware problem that has gone undetected through MG's cleaning procedure, of which i followed every step, and no longer find any malware, spyware, or anything else of that nature .

    test results :

An error occured while measuring your host (75-17-83-70.lightspeed.hstntx.sbcglobal.net - 75.17.83.70):
Our tool was unable to measure your link
The connection to the measurement server was lost.

Ok . Ran the test a second time, and this time the results are :

    * The BitTorrent download worked. Our tool was successful in downloading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

    * There's no indication that your ISP rate limits your BitTorrent downloads. In our tests a TCP download achieved at least 2598 Kbps while a BitTorrent download achieved at most 2658 Kbps. You can find details here.

Is BitTorrent traffic on a non-standard BitTorrent port (10009) throttled?

    * The BitTorrent download worked. Our tool was successful in downloading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

    * There's no indication that your ISP rate limits your BitTorrent downloads. In our tests a TCP download achieved at least 2571 Kbps while a BitTorrent download achieved at most 2646 Kbps. You can find details here.

Is TCP traffic on a well-known BitTorrent port (6881) throttled?

    * There's no indication that your ISP rate limits all downloads at port 6881. In our test, a TCP download on a BitTorrent port achieved at least 2647 Kbps while a TCP download on a non-BitTorrent port achieved at least 2571 Kbps. You can find details here.

Have you switched any security apps recently?

Perhaps your ISP just implemented a load-balancing policy -- we experienced the same problem when ours did (without warning)... we had to give equal bandwidth to our downloads and uploads and suddenly download speeds cranked right back up...

i have always kept my share ratio at an above acceptable rate. This is a problem that is rooted elsewhere. Im still working on it, thanks for your input, any and all input is welcome . This seems to be a port forwarding problem, not a problem rooted with my ISP .

guess nobody knows anything about ports here.
still scouring google for an answer .

ok, its a firewall issue. Something changed itself in my firewall (malware?) I NEVER jack with my firewall settings after initial installation . I turned off my PC Tools firewall, and my port tests within the apps in question tested good.
so i guess ill just start messing around with my firewall settings until i get a good test .
Weird - wonder how this happened ?

Created specific rules within my firewall concerning the ports at question.
    All is well .
