http://portableapps.com/ check out this site everyone. it is cool. everything goes onto a usb drive and can be run on any computer you plug it into.

it has firefox and open office... wich is really cool. there is also a suite that comes with everything you could possibly need. (calander, instant messenger, web browser, etc...) and an app that will alow you to launch everything via a window that will pop up once the drive is inserted into a computer.

I believe this site has at least a couple of them also.
I first discovered portable apps a couple months ago when I saw a Portable Firefox update here. Now after visiting that site I have portable GAIM, Firefox, and VLC Player, but I might also get PStart, XAMPP, and/or a couple others. I've found Firefox to be the most useful, though, because I can simply copy my settings to the USB drive and have my customizations wherever I go. VLC Player has had its uses, too, since it can play just about anything, and I can use it when I'm at a friend's house and using a computer whose owner doesn't want random codecs or other stuff installed when he/she's not there.

It'll be interesting to see what they come up with for the OS category.

To any readers who can get hold of PCUtilities magazine (based in the UK, but available in OZ, and maybe the USA), any program that they do a thumbnail review of, that does not need to be installed on your PC, they have a "stikky" that states "No Install".

Wish they did it for all the programs they list, and are on the CD/DVD, but this would be a hell of a job, I guess.

Might also be an idea for MG front page, if they know a program is "No Install", to indicate the fact, somehow.

I think I will start to make up a USB mini drive, or USB hard drive, with programs that require no installation. It will help diagnose problems on someone's PC, without actually loading stuff onto their hard drive. Bazza

A 512MB Lexar JumpDrive. The three portable apps I have take up about 75MB.

BTW, portablefreeware.com yields a SQL error. Anyone else getting it?
