OK.... I found something neat and cool. Worst part is, I am not entirely sure where I picked it up from. I think I ran across it on an instructable at intstructables.com, but let me tell ya. I made a CD with FF2 on it that I can take to work and have my familiar environment with all my bookies and everything and not eet in trouble for downloading anything.

I am working with it right now and I have to say, there is no appreciable difference in speed or anything once it starts up. Start up depends on your CD drive I suppose. You can get the portable stuff for free at www.portableapps.com. Anyone else have any thoughts on this??

I know that some will see this as a software post, but I am just looking for general thoughts on the, not help or anything. I just think it is a neat way to be able to take all your toys with you when you can't be home.

LEt me know what you think.

I usually carry around a smaller thumb drive... 128MB I think... which has a portable version of both FF and TB on it. Mainly Because at work all the thin clients and even the stand alones run IE. I also dont like using webmail so having TB preconfigured and portable is great. On a side note I also have a PDF of the D&D charecter sheet on there so I can "steal company resources"... i.e. use their laser printers.... yes I know... i am a dork :)

portable applications are indeed very useful. With the U3 Flash drives you can carry your software around. I don't know where the U3 platform is different from other USB drives but the article about it sounded really exciting :D.

I started looking into this because we have IE on all the units at work, and I prefer to have the tabbed experience of FF as I run mulitple windows to make life easier. I have two for the answering svc menu, one for Medicaid Transportation, one for out Helplink service and one for surfing when it's slow. Instead of having to nab the little button on the bar and remember which one is which, i figure that hitting the tabs would make life a lot easier. This is my main reason, but I figure that f it works well, i may add in a few other toys like Trillian or Gaim to play with while at work. Nights... who works 'em any more... oh yeah, I do now :(
