    Hello,
Been awhile since I've had to visit. Basically, my mom updated her adobe acrobat(I think) on her laptop and now she said it starts up WAY slower and nothing is the "same as it used to be" in her word. I have the laptop for a week and I wanted to see if someone could help figure this out. I've actually heard that Adobe updates are one of the most common ways for hackers to access a computer. Please let me know what I can do to check for malware/spyware etc. I can't seem to find the general link I have always used on this site that has the step by step instructions on how to find malware/spyware on a computer. I know it involves downloading some software and running logs and sending them to someone at majorgeeks.com.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jeremy

The procedures are the first thread in the malware forum. Hard to miss.

I would suggest you first do a system restore to a time before she updated acrobat.

So I've run the full procedure and am attaching all log files, 4 in total. A few things I should say up front:
    1. My mom noticed all the popup windows started after she downloaded adobe reader. Also, she said the performance of the computer was drastically slower.
    2. Before I ran all the software you asked me to, I looked in her programs section of the control panel and noticed the 3 applications that were new(around the time things started going wrong) were an new version of firefox, acrobat and flash. I uninstalled all 3. I have been using chrome on her laptop to do everything else.
    3. To me everything seems to be running ok, but a few of the programs you had me run did find some things so I'm sending you the logs.

Thanks in advance for any help and guidance and let me know if I did anything wrong or need to rerun. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

    Good to know.

    Remove this in RogueKiller:
    ¤¤¤ Files : 1 ¤¤¤
    [PUP.Gen3][File] C:\Users\JeanetteG\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\kkcjjl4y.default\searchplugins\safesearch.xml -> Found

If everything is running fine. then:
If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Re-enable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8 or 10, it is time to make sure you have re-enabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now go to the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
