Possible driver download problems from Malware?

I tried posting this in Software, but thought maybe I would be better off here. A month or so back I used Hijack this to rid myself of a few nasty problems like Spy Axe, I am not very computer literate, but ever since then I have had to uninstall my Norton, my all in one HP printer and a few other minor programs. I don't seem oto have any other issues, except that I can't download the driver for the HP printer, nor can I install or use any new items, such as a Seagate USB drive. Computer recognises them, starts the wizard but everytime comes up with a message stating that the install could not be completed. I am using a Dell Inspirion with windows XP Home edition. Any ideas on this one? Please tell me I don't have to reformat.

Let's make sure you do not have any malware issues from SpyAxe left around. Or any others for that matter.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

- Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

- Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

- Also run this: SpywareStrike, Smitfraud, SpySheriff, SpyAxe & PSGuard Removal and attach the log.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
