Hello, I'm new to the forum, so if I do something I shouldn't do please tell me and I will fix it!

About a week or two ago I noticed a rather substantial difference in performance. My computer was generating lag that it never had done before, and advertisement pop-ups would periodically come up. When I looked at the processes list, there were two IEXPLORE.EXE files, both consuming a large amount of the computer.

The two processes are listed in the log I uploaded from what I see, and I know it isn't the default Internet Explorer because I never use it nor have it open. How should I remove this? It has been a burden to me since I am quite a big online gamer and every bit of performance helps. I also saw another thread on the same subject, but a few of the steps didn't seem like they may have pertained to my problem; I didn't want to do something I shouldn't have done to the registry. Thank you for your time!

Hello, and thank you for the welcome. I've followed the procedures accordingly and ran all 3 required programs, but only obtained logs from two; AVG did not generate a log after a full system scan. I followed the directions to set AVG to generate them after a scan properly, but it still did not come up.

Either way, here are the two logs I was able to obtain. I will keep the HiJackThis log just in case. Thank you so far!

    1) Open your Windows Live Messenger, go to Help -> Customer Experience Improvement Program and turn it off. That will stop you getting all those sqm files.

    2) Go to add/remove programs and uninstall the below:

    - Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only)
    - Viewpoint Media Player
    - Viewpoint Toolbar
    - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

    3) Please set your computer into normal startup mode. To do this, go to Start / Run and type in msconfig. Be sure the box next to normal system start is checked. Click on accept and ok.

    4) Reboot after uninstalling the above.

    5) Install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

    6) Please run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat and attach the fresh MGlogs.zip.

See the first steps of the READ & RUN ME. You have multiple antivirus applications installed. AOL and Norton. You must uninstall one now.

The reason you are having iexplore process open on their own is because you have a LOP infection. Possibly this is due to installing Morpheus which has been a bundler of malware in the past. I highly recommend you uninstall Morpheus Toolbar immediately.

If you uninstall Morpheus Toolbar, some of the below will already be gone so just ignore those items.
You MUST HAVE ComboFix.exe on your Desktop not a link to ComboFix like you did ( Shortcut to ComboFix.exe.lnk )

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {D73F49B6-B51B-4d32-A3B7-BD04B8342F53} - C:\Program Files\MorpheusBar\SrchAstt\1.bin\MBSRCAS.DLL (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: MorpheusToolbar BHO - {3F3714A1-89A4-46be-8AF3-D0C9D1FB03F9} - C:\Program Files\MorpheusBar\bar\1.bin\MORPHBAR.DLL
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D73F49B1-B51B-4d32-A3B7-BD04B8342F53} - C:\Program Files\MorpheusBar\SrchAstt\1.bin\MBSRCAS.DLL (file missing)
    O3 - Toolbar: Morpheus Toolbar - {3F3714A9-89A4-46be-8AF3-D0C9D1FB03F9} - C:\Program Files\MorpheusBar\bar\1.bin\MORPHBAR.DLL
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Easy SpyRemover] C:\Program Files\Easy SpyRemover\EasySpyRemover.exe /smart
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Army browse cdrom vga] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Mfcd upload army browse\Nurb comp.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_04\bin\jusched.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [cornerror] C:\DOCUME~1\CRYSTA~1\APPLIC~1\armylive\settingstwo.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

From the looks of it, the two processes have been eliminated. They haven't shown up anymore and my computer is back to running at its decent speed. :D Hopefully the logs will turn up with positive results. Either way, thank you both for your help!

Okay two more items need to be uninstalled. One from Symantec and the second is the definitely the reason for having your LOP infections and it is mentioned in the READ & RUN ME first steps.

    LiveUpdate 3.1 (Symantec Corporation)
Messenger Plus! Live & Sponsor (CiD)

After uninstalling the above, your logs will be clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix then UNINSTALL COMBOFIX (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN
      • Now type combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
      • Note: The space between the X and the U, it must be there.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you run RenV.exe, you can delete it and the Log.txt file on your Desktop.
    9. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    10. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    11. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    12. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    13. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
