i think i might have been hijacked but im not sure.
i have windows 98 laptop, using firefox web browser.

i was online a few hours ago and all of a sudden web pages wouldnt load properly. i X'd them and then restarted my computer, ran CCleaner, and then connected again using my dial up connection. this time when i opened up my firefox browser all it would say in the status bar was "looking for whatever" and then would stop, saying unable to load the page.
all of this plus my bookmark list was deleted except for one bookmark that i didnt put there was included. it was a folder with an arrow to another folder, with an arrow to another folder ect ect.. this was named with wierd/different letters/symbols like +'*&^ or something similar. i wish i copied the name down before i deleted it but i didnt.

i ran all the steps in the READ FIRST with all the spyware/adware/virus scans needed and the only thing that found anything was Ad Aware found a couple MSU things that i removed.

another step i took was to remove Mozilla Firefox, and then install it again. this did not help any.

after doing all of that i still could not get any pages to load when connected to the internet.
i left for awhile came back, restarted my laptop, ran CCleaner again, and this time after connecting to the internet i could get pages to load this time. i then came here.

i also ran hijackthis and can post a file of that..

    Welcome

If you have done everything in the READ ME and you still have a problem then do the following:

Please try to turn OFF any applications that are not needed It makes it much easier to look at the HJT log.
Make sure you have HijackThis 1.99.1 and follow the guidelines on where to install it and how to post a log as an attachment. This is all covered in the sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Now post a HijackThis log as an attachment to your message (Do not post the log inline). All running programs should be closed, INCLUDING YOUR WEB BROWSER, e-mail. Close before running Hijack This!

To repeat: Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder for example C:\Program Files\HJT

    Good Luck :)

I don't see anything wrong with your log as far as malware. Are you still having the problem?

i havnt had any problems today while being online. i only had the problem last night of webpages not loading and my bookmark list being deleted. i had saved my bookmark list so that wasnt a problem to reload.
i had this problem one time before about a month ago and was told my hijackthis log file was clean then aswell. im not sure why all this has happened, but hopefully wont happen again.

Glad you got it all fixed. ;) You should check this out now: How to Protect yourself from malware!

Once everything seems OK be sure to turn System restore back on.

Could be your ISP for the connection problem.
