I believe that my personal computer (PC) may be infected, or may have been, infected with a Trojan, namely TrojanClicker:Win32/Yabector.gen

My PC has the following operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3.

I have scanned my PC with the following software programmes installed on it:
Avira AntiVir Personal - Free Antivirus
    Lavasoft Ad-Aware
    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    Spybot - Search & Destroy
    SUPERAntispyware

None of these software programmes reported any problems. (Please note: I updated each one of these programmes before I ran them. I ran each one in normal mode, not safe mode.)

I then ran the following online scanners (which are recommended in the following thread:http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=80343):
    Bitdefender
    F-Secure Online Scanner
Trend Micro's Free Online Virus Scan
Window's Live Safety Center Free Online Scan.

Of these online scanners only Window's Live Safety Center Free Online Scan reported this infection. Window's Live Safety Center Free Online Scan reported that it successfully removed TrojanClicker:Win32/Yabector.gen.

I want to know if I can double check that it has been removed or if there is a dedicated or special removal tool for TrojanClicker:Win32/Yabector.gen so that I could run. Obviously, I could run Window's Live Safety Center Free Online Scan again to see if it reports the same problem, but it takes many hours and I do not want to run that online scan again if there is a better alternative.

I should add that I ran the scanners as a "housekeeping" process not because I had any suspicions that my PC was infected so I am unable to report any symptoms that my PC had because it had none of which I was aware.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You really need to tell me the exact path of the file that the online scan reported ( though I know that may be too late now to request).

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this aother user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Thank you for your reply.

I cannot tell you the exact path of the file that the online scan reported. I may be mistaken but I do not recall it giving a location.

There are two accounts on my PC. One, mine, set up as the administrator and another one set up without administrator rights but I do not know which account the infection was on or may be I am showing my ignorance and it could have been on the PC as a whole.

I will follow the guides you have provided but first I want to ask if I need to carry out all the procedures on both accounts or just one of them. If I do it on both accounts I presume in that case I should grant the other account administrator privileges while the checks are performed.

I hope you can advise on this. Thanks!

You ran the scans on your account, which has the Admin. privileges, so you should be ok. If you want, you can log into the other account and run SAS and MBAM to see if anything exists in that account.

It may be a while before I post the logs, or I may never be able to post them. If anyone would like to know how stupid I am and to have the opportunity of learning from my mistakes then I refer you to the thread I have posted in the Hardware forum: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=211352

I have run all the steps in READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide (for Windows XP). I ran everything in normal boot mode.

    All the tools ran.

I do not have any further problems of which I am aware.

Please advise if any malware is reported in the logs so that I know if I need to toggle System Restore. Obviously, I know you will advise me of any cleaning procedures or repairs I need to undertake.

In this first of two posts I attach the following logs SASlog.txt (from SUPERAntispyware), mbamlog.txt (from Malwarebytes Antimalware), ComboFix.txt (from ComboFix), and RRlog.txt (from RootRepeal), which were all run on my account (the account with administrator privileges).

In this second of two posts I attach the following logs MGlogs.zip (from MGtools), which was run on my account (the account with administrator privileges). I also attach two further logs: SASlog2.txt (from SUPERAntispyware), mbamlog2.txt (from Malwarebytes Antimalware), which, as per your recommendation, were run on the other account (I gave that account administrator privileges while the scans were run).

    All your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
