Possible Malware Infection?

    Hi there

I'm not sure if I have an infection or not but I googled the symptoms and it certainly points to it, even though nothing has shown up on any scans I've done.

I ran your cleaning procedure last Saturday (when I first noticed the symptoms) and all the symptoms disappeared so I assumed everything was ok. I used my laptop on Monday and Tuesday night, everything was fine. Used it Wednesday and the symptoms randomly came back.

    Symptoms include in normal mode:
    - McAffee won't launch
    - Firefox won't launch
    - ctl+alt+del won't launch
    - I can't install or uninstall programmes
    - have tried 2 system restores but they fail

In safe mode all of these launch except for when I turn on McAffee it immediately turns itself off again.

I didn't run any new scans (as I wasn't sure if I was supposed to or not?) so the attached logs are from Saturday. I also used Stinger on Wednesday but all came back clean.

This laptop has a history of having problems with windows updates (they don't install on shut down so I have to install them manually via windows update and they take ages)

This is a dell laptop running windows 7, please let me know if I need to tell you anything else!!

    Thanks so much x

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You do not appear to be having malware problems. Your logs are clean. My suggestion would be to uninstall McAfee and reboot. Then make sure it is uninstalled by also running the below

    McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool

Then see if you are still having problems.

Thanks so much Chaslang! I've uninstalled McAfee, unfortunately I couldn't re-install it so I've given up and installed Avast! instead which seems to be a lot better anyway!!

All problems have now ceased - thanks again! :)

    You're welcome.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Go back to step 4 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
