I regard me as an experied user, but here I'm lost. :confused

I encounter some problems using USB flash memory (USB pens). Copying files from my PC, I find the target map still empty. Files copyed fram another PC into any map on a USB pen may occure in my browser, but it is also possible they wouldn't show at all. (Otherwise I can see hidden files)

I use Windows XP home edition, SP2 withNorman Anti virus & firewall installed

I've followed all steps in your tutorial considering removal of malware using MGtools. Some tracing cookies were deleted. My last run of SpyBot did not find any problems.

I enclose the zip-file from MGtools and hope for some help.

P.S. I did not have any USB pens connected to my PC during the run, maybe that was a failiure.. - I do not use USB pens anymore fearing spreading my problems to other PCs

    Hi alfi20!
    Welcome to Major Geeks!

There should be three logs (or two if AVG Antispyware didn't produce one). You should at least have logs for the MGTools (called MGlogs.txt and found directly under C) and you should have ComboFix which I think is also directly under C.

Be sure to check the Remember Me button when you log on or you may have trouble with your attachments.

Your problems do not appear to be malware related. You should consider posting the exact details of your problems with as much specific info as you can provide in the Software or Hardware Forum.

I do have a few things that you should do that are unrelated to your problem.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 8

Make sure you reboot after uninstalling the above!

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Download HostsXpert and then follow the below steps.
    • Unzip HostsXpert.zip
[*]It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
[*]Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
      [*]click the Make Writeable? button.
[*]click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
[*]Click the X to exit the program
