Possible Malware Slowing Internet Connection

    In the past week I've been getting a slow internet connection and my graphics have been lagging.
    I updated all of my drivers using Uniblue's DriverScanner and also DriverMax Pro, which seemed to fix the problem until today.
    My download speed slowed to between 3-5 kBps - max.
    I tested it on www.ozspeedtest.com, and at the very start of the download test it would jump to between 50 and 60 kBps, then dropped to 5 immediately, suggesting that something may be restricting my speed. I haven't changed any of my firewall settings recently enough to have affected anything.
    I read through the Read Me for this forum and I followed all of the steps, the attached logs are as follows:

    View attachment MBAM log.txt
    View attachment ComboFix.txt

    For your slow internet connection issue you should really visit the networking forum however I would like to point out to you that having Limewire running in the background hogs your bandwidth. I notice you have it installed.

    Even when you are not downloading it will be using up resources. When Limewire is first installed it allocates itself a certain amount of your bandwidth which it is constantly using. But there could also be other reasons which as I said will have to be resolved in the networking forum.

    *Before we continue you need to put this machine into normal start up mode using MSCONFIG as requested per the R&R.*

    1. Please go to add/remove programs and uninstall the following:

    Mirar <--- adware more than likely installed thru using Limewire
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2 <--- old version of java

    I also personally would uninstall programs like these, they are not malware, however there are much better alternatives:

    • Uniblue DriverScanner 2009
    • Uniblue DriverScanner 2009
    • Uniblue RegistryBooster 2009
    • Uniblue RegistryBooster 2009
    • Uniblue SpeedUpMyPC 2009
    • Uniblue SpeedUpMyPC 2009
    • a-squared Free 4.0

    2. Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    It is not wise to place ANY site into your TZ.
    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    3. Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:

    KILLALL::

    DirLook::
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\{B46E1EF5-0B37-4DB4-A4E2-9F2B41036185}

    File::
    c:\windows\45235788142C44BE8A4DDDE9A84492E5.TMP

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB}]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    4. Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).

    C:\Documents and Settings\Tony Hodgetts\Local Settings\temp

    5. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix

    6. Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now.

    I tried uninstalling Mirar both with add/remove programs and Revo Uninstaller. When the app uninstaller launches, I check both boxes to uninstall it, click next and then it comes up with the white box at the top saying that it is not responding. It isn't not responding as i can resize the window and click in it without (Not Responding) coming up next to the non-existent program name.
    Any help with this is appreciated..

    Thankyou very much for the help, i will post a reply soon saying how my system is running

    Mirar is no longer showing in your logs. Revo must have removed it.

    Spyware Doctor 7.0 <--- if this is just a useless trial version then you would be better off uninstalling it. Obviously if it's paid for then leave it alone.

    Go to this link Using MGTools and download the new version of MGtools.exe using the black bold print link in the first sentence. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

    Run the new MGTools.exe and attach the C:\mglogs.zip that it generates into your next reply.

    Spyware Doctor is the full version, but I don't mind uninstalling it if it's interfering with my firewall. The IntelliGuard system it has looks like a firewall to me and in the READ AND RUN ME it said having 2 is not good. Is it affecting my system to have them both running and, if so, is simply uninstalling it via add/remove programs enough to return my system to being protected?

    I'm not too sure i updated MGtools correctly. I followed the link but I didn't find a 'black bold print link in the first sentence'. Maybe this was just a difference in colours for showing hyprelinks, but the MGtools.exe download from that link was 2.27 MB, the same as the one already in my C drive. Correct me if i'm wrong, maybe the update was just small in size.

    Also i'm not sure if this is related but this appeared shortly before my computer starting acting up.
    X Drive.JPG
    I googled it, and it said that "192.168.1.101 is part of the IP address range typically used on home computer networks having Linksys broadband routers".

    I guess it made me paranoid, so if it's useless I'm sorry :p

    Thanks again so much for all your help.

    Spyware Doctor's 'intelliguard' is not a firewall:

    You can still use it alongside Nod32 however personally I would choose not to run Spyware Doctor paid for or otherwise. Instead I use the free versions of both Malware Bytes and Superantispyware, but this is all down to user preference.

    No, it's actually blue. Sorry for any confusion. :)

    Your logs are clean. Anything else that remains must be resolved in the software forum or wherever appropriate.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    You're welcome :)
