Hey guys, hoping you could help me out.

We had a power surge at the college I'm at and now my main rig, my desktop will not boot. I get one beep when I power it on saying it posts, all of the fans are spinning / running. The problem is this: the display lags a bit to turn on, and when it does, it just displays a splash screen of the motherboard manufacturer and the display idles out to standby. Before I go spending money on parts, I want to know exactly what I need to replace....broke college student here hahaha...

    Thanks guys!

If you're broke, look into warranties before you start spending anything at all. Most decent manufacturers will do a warranty replacement for you if you're still in warranty. For ASUS motherboards the warranty is 3 years. Not sure about other brands...

You can try taking out all your RAM, and then power it on. If it beeps at you the motherboard works.
