Help! I am having a few issues when using internet explorer 7. A lot of the time it does nothing before coming up as not responding. I can't open a new tab or click on a link in an email without this happening. General browsing seems to be ok and facebook links work fine, if a little slow.

Does anybody have a suggestion as to what the problem might be and how I would fix it?

    Hi Alison

Could be a few things happening here from being malware infected to a 3rd party add-on as in toolbar etc causing this.

Likely suspect if your general browsing is ok but slow is a 3rd party add-on so try running IE7 in its no-add ons mode, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools and click Internet Expolorer no-addons, this is like a safe mode IE, if that works the issue is likely with an add-on you have installed, main culprits are toolbars ( and I woudl be tempted to uninstall any Toolbars you have installed )

Also try some of the following steps and at completion of each one test your internet to see what actually fixed it

    1. Have you cleared the temp internet cache and cookies, may have some corrupted temps, Ccleaner is ok for this job, or just Tools > Internet Options > Browsing history delete > Delete all.

    2. If indeed the No-Addons IE7 fixed this then run the normal IE from your usual icon to start it and disable manually all the add-ons and enable one at a time to find the cluprit, click in IE, Tools > Manage Add-ons

    3. Update the following browser addons for websites

Java Runtime http://www.majorgeeks.com/Sun_Java_Runtime_Environment_d4648.html ( note: do goto add/remove and uninstall all older versions of Java first or run this free Java removal app JavaRa )

    Flash Player http://www.majorgeeks.com/Adobe_Flash_Player_d5163.html

    Shockwave Player http://www.majorgeeks.com/Macromedia_Shockwave_Player_d4272.html

    4. Run some antivirus scans to see if anything untoward is highlighted, if there is anything found then we have steps in the malware forums main Read Me guide to assist.

    Hi Alison

Great on fixing, which step did you think fixed this, would be good to know in case others have similar issues?

    Cheers :)

Not entirely sure but I think it was a toolbar that I downloaded from bebo. Disabled it along with some others and has been working fine since. Thanks.
