    Hello all,

    This is a pentium 4 machine running XP home edition.

    I am posting because I am getting the feeling something is wrong because some programs are not working anymore.

    Originally we used malwarebytes anti malware; it has since stopped working. You double click on the exe and nothing happens, no processes, no program running in task manager.

    So I uninstalled it and ran a clean up utility; I then updated Java and ran CC cleaner.

    Next I attempted to install Microsoft Security Essentials. It will install but when you attempt to open the program, nothing happens just like with malwarebytes. You also cannot right click on a file to scan-on-demand; an error is output saying it cannot be scanned.

    I think there is something going on underneath keeping anti-virus/malware programs from being run.

    Attached are my logs that I could obtain; as I said I cannot run Malwarebytes to obtain a log.

    thanks again

    Rescan with HitmanPro.

    Choose to Delete these all the files that are detected.

    Afterwards, click the Next button.
    HitmanPro may want to reboot the PC in order for the changes to take affect, please do so.

    Then please run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). Make sure you wait for it to finish.

    Then attach the below logs:

    * HitmanPro log
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    I ran hitmanpro and deleted all 764 items as you asked, I forgot to save the log - I ran hitmanpro again afterwards and saved a log from the run after deleting all the files.

    MGtools was able to completely run; the log is attached

    Run this: Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    Let me just state that it is a bad idea to allow all users to have Admin. privileges.

    Your logs are clean. Tell me what issues you may still be having, if any.
