I have a cable connection to the Internet but I have a Keyboard and Mouse that are Cordless. Some funny things have been happening lately and this causes me some concern. I therefore have a very simple question would someone in close proximity to my location be able to access my system?

If it is possible what steps can I take to improve security without having to go back to a wired Mouse and Keyboard?

It would be possible, but only if they were inside your home and within a metre or so of the comp, in which case they might as well use yours ;) Connecting wireless keyboards and mice involves a handshaking procedure in which both devices have to participate. It also requires the physical presnce of the person making the connection, so whatever problems you are having they aren't related to your input devices.

Much more likely would be that some form of malware has got aboard, so update your security software and do some scans.

Yeah i would do some Scans as well and see if any thing is poping up there are some Virus's/Malware that can make your mouse and Keyboard Act funny.

Make sure remote access is off.
    1. Open Control Panel
    2. Select "Performance and Maintenance" and then "System."
    3. Go to the Remote tab and uncheck the box next to "Allow users to remotely connect to this computer" then click "OK."

    Hi Guys,

    Many thanks for the responses.

    Dear Plodr

You said -'uncheck the box next to "Allow users to remotely connect to this computer" then click "OK'

I did this when I got my System which is Windows XP

    Dear Earthling

You said - 'It would be possible, but only if they were inside your home and within a metre or so of the comp'

Although there is a Wall between us the problem is he less than a Metre from where my PC is located. Are there any other options open to me? Without my having to go back to wired Keyboard & Mouse.

    Hi Samtal

You asked -Do you have a firewall program installed?

I use COMODO set now on Paranoid mode.I also monitor when on-line using Windows Defender.

    Hi Goldenskull

You asked -'Well if there that close i would get rid of the wireless key board Does this person have a Peep hole lol.'

Big on DIY many holes on his side of the Wall.A noise free House with no sound is now a little bit of an echo chamber. But no peepholes.

You asked -'are you hard wired to lan or do you have wireless.I would check to make sure so this person is not getting free internet off yeah.'

I am connected by cable to the ISP.

A number of years ago I had an AVG Firewall which would warn you if your system was being monitored. It was a good facility and it also the capability to backtrace back to the source.

Is there a piece of kit that would do that type of monitoring?
