possible upgrades???

have a question and hopin somebody can help. my cousins comp is movin pretty slow. they have a "gateway atxstf fed performance 1000." despite my pushin them to let me build them a new comp, they just wanna do what they can with this one.

i need to know the motherboard used and possible memory specs and all that jazz. i know it's an intel 815 chipset, but i can't match up the motherboard anywhere.
the best thing i can think of to pick up its speed is to add some more ram and a hard drive to put some relief on the 95% full 20gig. it has one stick of 128mb. anybody know if this is gateway minimum for this motherboard? or can i go higher and can i use ddr? the motherboard has no marking tags on it at all. any help would be great.. thanks

Its a pent 3 1ghz; dont think it can use DDR at all.

 

i have an 810 chipset which is very similar to the 815 and it uses PC133 RAM ... although it runs @PC100 ... i'm guessing that the most RAM you could fit in there is two sticks of 256MB PC133 RAM .. of course if it's using PC66 RAM then I couldn't tell you what RAM to get

also your Gateway model number is kind of vague

 

Well, you could always take the ``lazy guy's way out'' and go to Crucial's website. (That's what I would do).

More memory sometimes can kick butt!

If it keeps you from paging stuff out to the hard drive, you WILL see a performance
boost.

Besides, no fish tank yet...
hehe... you can always install linux to it, experiment w/ it...
