Possible Videocard Overheating

I have reformated and tried everything driver wise to fix a lockup i get in games. Opengl or Directx games freeze for like thirty seconds even with my soundcard disabled and the more i play the worse it gets. Only thing i havent done is open my case and see if my Videocard fan is clogged or stopped running. But i get no graqphic glitches in games it just freezes. I overclock nothing and seem to think if my card was overheating i would get graphic glitches. Yes i have the latest Directx and even tried going back to Directx 8.1. What you peeps think? Card overheating?

 

BTW my case and processor are the same temps they have been for the past 2 years and i didnt have this prob befor...

 

I would try a different card in your system and try your card in a different system. That will let you know if it's a system problem or a video card problem.

 

try dusting out your case and fans, also the fan from the vid card.

 

Yeah, normally you would get artifacts if the card was overheating (calculation errors, basically), like strangley coloured triangles all over the place, or random square shaped things around the place. You can actually get that from installing the wrong drivers as well, but thats usually just because the drivers arn't running data into the card at the correct bandwidth or somthing like that.

Oh I'll presume you've done a virus check and updated everything?

Probelm solved...My fan as i suspected on the video card stopped, It was full of dustbunnies so i cleaned it out and am back to snuff. I just thought that if it was overheating it would give me artifacs or some kind of graphic glitches but it didnt. It would just freeze...Anyway i hope this helps someone else...Thanx peeps
