Incredibly sexy looking computer set up you got there Ian... Good job... I couldn't even build my own rig.... You know it's late when you think the title of this thread was "Post A Pic Of Your Pig"....

How much to you reckon the whole set up is worth?

And what is that thin black box to the left of your tower?

The whole setup is just barely over $3,000 (took some time to buy)

The box to the left is my Flux Capacitor!!! haha, na its just a directv box, my computer has a tv tuner on it :)

    As for the drive bays:
Bottom Bay: Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
2nd, 3rd, and 4th from the bottom : Hard Drive Space
5th from the bottom: Sony DVD-RW Drive
    6th from the bottom: Sony CD-ROM/RW DVD-ROM
    Top Bay: Power & Reset
2nd down: Thermaltake drawer thingy (kinda useless)
3rd down: Thermaltake Big water SE Aqua Bay
4th and 5th down: BLANK (soon to be Thermaltake Radiator)

    Thanks for the compliments guys!

NOTE: I would of also had 2 small LED lights inside the oval on the front making it look Uber more cool. However, I attempted to re-wire them and make them sound reactive along with my cold cathode bars  ... They worked for a while but soon blew :(.. Getting some new ones soon, will post new pictures once fitted:D

P.S Nice rig IanTheGeek, Hopefully I'll get mine to that sort of standard one of these days ;)

    Nice system Ian.

Did you buy the case with the side window, or did you do it yourself?

BTW, why isn't the side cover closed properly?

Thanks Insomniac! ...and no, the case isnt closed all the way: I didn't even notice that until you pointed it out... It requires a good amount of force to close it all the way because: Yes, it is a custom window, and there is quite a bit of "stuff" in there. I set the case up so that the black lights which create the water cooling to glow green, and the letters and design on the window to glow blue to turn off completely when I open the case's side panel. When the panel is open, all of the colored lights turn off, and 4 sets of 3 bright white LED's turn on so that i can play with all the gizmo's inside. :) BTW, I love that case man... that was my third choice right behind the HP 1982 Pizza Box :)

I'm a cheapskate, but one day I'll get a nice system.

If I ever had a system as nice as that though, I'd be sleeping with it. :)

Anyway, is that tower as big as it looks? It looks huge!

And well done, you must be proud.

  16. IanTheGeek

    IanTheGeek Private First Class

Thanks... Yeah, the tower is gigantic: I THINK that its classified as a super-full tower, weighing in (with all components installed) at 79.6 lbs with 12 optical drive bays (10 of which are occupied), yea its pretty big. hahaha...
And yes, I am quite proud actually, it took me 5 months to save and pay for, and the custom side window I did entirely. It's the first plexiglass cutting I've ever done, and I also had to cut the whole in the side of the case, so I had to re-paint it as well. I would say that there is a good 10 hours worth of work in it. Fortunetely my girlfriend sleeps with me everynight, otherwise yes, I would be sleeping with it too.. hahaha

    Now I'm really jealous.

Not only do you have a nice system, but you have a girlfriend as well. :)

I'd be too scared to try that with a new tower, but it sounds like it went well.

I still don't understand why Thermaltake don't offer them with a window as there's obviously a market for them.

The mouse pad and keyboard match each other. What are they, never seen them before?

Actually, the Thermaltake Armor case IS offered with a side window, however, I really wanted something original.

Anyways, here is what mine looked like to start with:
    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g305/ianthegeek/thermaltake_armor_va8000bns-150-150.jpg

This is what it looks like with a preinstalled side window:

    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g305/ianthegeek/untitled.jpg

My case window is a 16" circle with a circle around the outside which has the names of two demons and two archangles. The enscription in the middle is from the french version of the new testament Revelation 13:18, it says: Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

BTW: I'm not religious, just like the stories :)

The mouse is a Razer Copperhead w/2000 dpi

The keyboard is made by Saitek

The round window was a good (and unique) choice, and it looks like a professional job.

What's are the ports up top like in everyday use (I'm used to them on the front face)?

Just curious as that particular tower is on my list for my next system build.

Only it's size, and the placement of the USB and firewire ports are my only concern.

What's the quality like etc (EG rolled edges, tool less design)?

    No, close. It's a Pentium III 866! :D

Can't complain, it cost absolutely nothing, and believe it or not, I've played Far Cry and Doom 3 on it. :)

Overall I would give this case a ten out of ten because it is amazing, the metal work is spectacular, the paintjob is clean, its heavy-duty... the only thing that i really DONT like about it is that the usb ports ARE on the top, i never use them althought they are functional. my next choice besides this case was the antec P180, I love that thing. its REALLY nice lookin', has great metal work, and is really quite large for a mid tower.

  26. Insomniac

Insomniac Billy Ray Cyrus #1 Fan

I think yours looks better than the P180.

Still worried about the top USB ports. Would prefer them to be on the front, but I've never seen or used an Armor case, so can't say with certainty.

Don't think much of leaving the door on them either.

I think they look better, and are more functional with it off.

Well, I also took into concideration that I would have 4 USB in the I/O ports on the back, and that my motherboard also supports 6 more USB ports wherever I want, so i connected two up top, and four on pci slots in the back. currently all that I have hooked up is four things, so when I get my other 7900 GTX, I'm going to have to remove the pci located USB ports. As for the doors, yeah, I agree it may look pretty cool with them off, BUT your going to have two huge divots in the side of the case where the doors were. The other case that I was debating on was the Thermaltake Tai-Chi with preinstalled water cooling (I would have removed the wheels from the bottom of course)

Daym. My case is craptacular. The side panels are sprayed green, but I got bored before I managed to do the rest of the case. One side panel has a window in it - this case is old enough that I installed it *before* case modding was "cool". So it's got really thick nasty rubber trimming around it.

I also stuck an apple sticker on it, to be amusing :p

There are lots of shiny coloured things inside, and a squirrel cage style CPU fan which impresses the ladies :p It doesn't cool the CPU too well though :D

The power and HDD activitiy lights got replaced with Ultrabrite blue and green LEDs - come on, standard green and orange isn't nearly 1337 enough :p . The bays look a complete mess. The floppy drive has a flopping and a spacer from a completely different case. The 5 14" bays bays have CD writer and DVD writer, and a big gaping hole because I ran out of spacers. Yes, I know, dust magnet but really there isn't much I can be bothered to do about it.

I added a blowhole in the top to make the airflow work properly, and I added a great big AC powered fan to the front which could quite easily take your fingers off - but it's quiet and very effective. But since it's so inconvinient to power it up it's hardly ever on.

My servers - well one is a stock case with nothing wrong with it. The other, however, has been gutted and kicked around. The front panel is hanging off, both panels are dented, the fan grate in the back was gnawed off (to improve airflow!) but not replaced with anything, the 3 1/2" mounting plates were ripped off - all 4 of the 5 1/4 " drive bay spacers are missing. The power LED is somewhere inside the front of the case. That's my fileserver - and has a 200GB hard drive in it, and a Celeron 700 and 64MB of ram. It runs Debian Linux with minimal packages installed. I think all it's got installed is sshd, samba and ext2fs-tools.

The stock box is my general server - which I use as a development server and also as a folding box. It can do multiple things, like being a temporary email server or a network monitor.

There is also an IBM which doesn't do much other than be slow and run a printer on the network. For some reason I can't get cups to work on the general box with that printer.

Goldfish, I'll be honest: I'm jealous. I wish my computer attracted the ladies...

You know what got me thinkin', " squirrel cage style CPU fan " ... If someone had a large enough case, and it is already running warn, you could build a cage in there for a lizard or somthing, now that would be some unique case modding, anyone know of anything like this that may have already been done??

The most original casemod that I've ever seen was a guy somewhere in europe who cooled his cpu with copper piping which led to his toilet. He had what looked to be a small car radiator with antifreeze running thru it with copper pipes through the bathroom wall, and into his computer room... it was, akward.
