My father's family came from Iowa. Never been there, only met him a couple times. I was born and raised in California. Lived in San Francisco through my grammar school years, then moved to Ventura. Grass, trees whole new thing. I think theres something to be said for both.If you have money to enjoy whatever the locations have to offer.

    >> I'm curious...are most of you people who live in bigger cities HAPPY there? Or do you ever long for the 'country'? I am NOT happy in the city...but, it will be fine until I can GET that place in the country. Toni_1947 <<

I guess it all depends upon "which" city (or country area) you are referring to as well as which area you grew up in. I've lived in both and much prefer the city to any country setting. The town where I currently live has a very large (but fairly safe) and vibrant city on one side and a bunch of affluent country-like town on the other side so it's really the best of both worlds. I lived in southern Ireland (County Meath) for a short period of time which was terrific; but I missed my friends and relatives.

My family all lives way out in "the country" (I grew up there too) and it's soooooo boring there. I mean I love the occasional visits around the holidays or other family-related events. And I liked it a lot when I lived there as a kid and all; but it's so remote that there is literally nothing to do there. No museums worth visiting or nightlife at all - just "Local Yokel" dives, zero sports facilities, quaint but crappy restaurants and you have to drive 15-20 miles to buy groceries or gas.

My brother wouldn't live in a city if his life depended on it; but he has to commute like two hours a day to get to work and to get back home and their property is around 3 1/2 acres of land, so he usually spends practically the entire weekend keeping it up in the warmer months. The entire county where they live has a very small government so taxes are low, but god help you if your road needs repairs or you have a well runs dry on you. Also, because they have little "governing oversight" they sometimes have other things happen like trouble with illegal dumping near landfills and lakes which can stink up the whole area if the winds blowing the wrong way.

I think the grass is always greener applies in this situation for a some folks but in my case; I prefer the city.

    Good Luck!

Very true...but I really dislike all the concrete, steel, glass, traffic noise and sirens.
I prefer woods, mountains, the sound of spring water trickling over rocks, owls and whiporwills and leaves crunching from a deer, raccoon or even a black bear snooping around. Just makes me feel like I'm 'One with Nature'. (sigh)

First of all, to answer Toni's question, I live inthe City, and I HATE IT!!!! I grew up in the country and long to move back there. The only thing thatI do like about the city, is that I can take a bus to and from work as I currently find myself without a vehicle, and I can walk to the store (Which is good as I need the exercise anyways.) As to pics... I went dredging around online as I didn't take my camera downtown this morning with me, and here is what you get:
    WHere we are:

No problem. IU figure that this area is so shot that a little tourism type boost can't hurt, although, looks like I got busted for nicking some pics off the 'net for it :)

The way I see it, we could ahve a huge tourist base if we actually tried and told Bob Congel to shove it up his arse (go to Syracuse.com and do a search for Destiny USA and you'll see what i mean)

*shrugs* LOL @ me... took myself seriously for a minute there :)
