    Re: Can't find devmgr

I've carried out everything suggested in the Malware section. BitDefender and Panda Active Scan were carried out in normal mode because I could not connect in Safe Mode with Networking even though I have an always on connection. Attaced are the bdscan, active scan and hjt log. I'll make another post with the additional attachments.

    Thanks

I had posted this in the Software section orginally but thought may be I should move it here. I don't appear to be having any problems now but BitDefender and PandaScan both found things that nothing else found and have not been cleared off. I haven't carried out the switch-off/switch-on of restore but I want to know I can clear the problems I still have.

If you have completed all the steps of our tutorial; attach your logs. It will take 2 posts to attach all 5 logs.

I've already attached the files in a thread called 'Can't find devmgr' in the Software forum. I've tried reattaching them to this thread but get a report saying this is not possible because they've already been uploaded.

    Download
    - Pocket Killbox
    - ExplorerXP

<< The installed version of Java on this compter is out-dated. Install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8 available from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp. Uninstall all older versions of Java on your computer, before installing the latest version of Java. >>

    Empty the Recycle Bin

Now run CCleaner. If you have Windows XP delete the contents of C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch.

Then, as an added precaution, Go to Start -> Run and type: cleanmgr and then click OK. Make sure the boxes for these are checked:
    Temporary Files
    Temporary Internet Files
    Recycle Bin

    Click OK.

    Now run Pocket Killbox:

Choose Tools -> Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files

Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.

NOTE: Pocket Killbox will only list the added files it is able to find on the system. So when you do the below, if some files do not show in the list after pasting them in, just continue..

    Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
    • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):
    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).
If Killbox does not reboot or you get a Pending Operations type error message just reboot your PC yourself.

    Now boot into SAFE MODE

Open ExplorerXP navigate to and DELETE the following: (Some of these may have already been deleted by Pocket Killbox)

    Recycle Bin

    And Click OK.

    REBOOT to Normal Mode.

I've carried out everything you say. The only error I had was trying to install Java. The online install gave an error so I downloaded the whole thing and then installed. None of the files to delete were in ExplorerXP so I guess Killbox got them all. Should I now turn-off/turn-on restore point.

Post a fresh HijackThis log. Let me take a look at that first.

I've attached an HJT log i've just carried out. I went into msconfig first to select Normal Boot so everything should be on there.

Thanks for all the help. As a last request on this thread. I now may have added too much. As well as AVG and ZA, I've now got Adaware, Spybot S&D, Defender and Spyware Blaster. Spybot on my laptop has an icon in the task bar but not on my desktop. Also when Spybot alerts me of a registry change the small window is too small to allow me to read all the info and cannot be resized.

Again thanks for all the help.

That's the TeaTimer function and should be turned off.

What you have installed is just fine, definitely not too much.
