    Excellent.

    Are there any remaining questions or concerns you might have before I post some tool/log clean up instructions and other information for you to consider going forward?

    I am glad we could help.

    Here is our final step and some additional information to consider.

    ===================================================

    KpRm by Kernel-panik

    --------------
    • Download KpRm and save it to your Desktop (see here if you must use Chrome)
    • Note: If the file is detected as malware it is not and it is safe to download. The detection is a false positive.
    • Right click on the icon and select Run as administrator
    • Click Yes on the Disclaimer
    • Place a check mark in Delete Tools, Create Restore Point, and Delete in 7 days
    • Click Run
    • Click OK on All operations are completed
    • KpRm will delete itself from you Desktop and you can either save or remove the report that is generated
    • You are free to remove any other tools/reports still remaining
    ===================================================

    All Clean!

    --------------

    Your computer is now clean. Please consider this going forward.

    ===================================================

    Please take the time to read below on how to secure the machine and take the necessary steps to keep it clean.

    Thank you for placing your trust in Major Geeks. It was a pleasure serving you.

    If I may I do have a question. In all the things I've done as requested I'm not certain of the answer. Was my PC infected with some form of malware or have we just got rid of some unwanted programs?

    I shall carry out the KpRm procedure as per your instructions.

    I intend to read through all the steps about keeping your PC clean. I'm hoping most of what I read I already know. I hope this because I try very hard to make sure I avoid malware. That's why I was so upset when I thought my PC had been infected. I suppose it's impossible to remain 100% safe. If I learn anything new I shall be certain to apply that knowledge.

    Thank you so very much for your help and the time you have devoted to helping me. I really do appreciate it. I'm shamefully very IT illiterate and could not have dealt with this on my own.

    Greetings.

    You are most welcome. Computers can become overwhelming complex when trying to problem solve and that is why we are here. You are welcome to return anytime.

    Your computer was not infected. There were some system files repaired but that is quite common and related to corruption rather than infection. And yes, we cleaned up some Potentially Unwanted Programs and generally did a tune up of your system.

    Thank you so much.

    Being paranoid I've checked my other PC. I started by doing critical point and quick scans with Malwarebytes, Microsoft Defender and SuperAnti-Spyware (SAS). Defender kept freezing so I though forget our not so helpful friend Microsoft. Critical point and quick scans found nothing. I then did full scans with Malwarebytes and SAS. Malwarebytes said my PC was clean. SAS found, I believe, 36 adware tracking cookies. I suspect these are not desirable but not highly dangerous. After the SAS scan I saved the scan log then I allowed SAS to deal with the discovered malware. SAS reported it sucessfully cleaned everything. I attach the SAS scan log if you would be so kind as to look at it.

    If I need to go through the whole Read and Run Me process with my desktop PC after you've viewed the SAS scan log will you be able to continue helping me or will I have to start a new thread. If I shouldn't even have asked you to check out this SAS scan log in this thread I apologise. Please advise me what I should do.

    Best wishes

    It is best to separate computers and only deal with one per topic.

    Start a new topic, do a FRST Scan and attach both reports to that topic.
