Pottermore (new Harry Potter site)

I tried but no go on the beta, my grandson was very disappointed. Another months wait or so. Yes, kudos to Rowlings for keeping the quality when it would have been so easy to succumb to the lure of big money and sacrifice the movie script to other input. Here's one response Laura.

 

I tried the day of when I heard about it, but that million was apparently snatched up extremely quickly.

 

My cousin does. Apparently he stalked the site relentlessly for like a month until it did some thing that was clue to do some other thing and you got a membership. He was apparently sorted into Slytherine house and he was so excited and obsessed about it that he got a Tattoo.

He needs a boyfriend or something. But he's having a lot of fun with it, it would seem!

 

Is he a wannabe Death Eater like Malfoy now?:-D Man, that's somewhat extreme, the tat.

 

Apparently he was prior Harry Potter obsessed, and he's not a death eater he displays all the qualities that it means to be... blah blah blah... I mean, I get liking something Imaginary. I even get getting immersed in it as an escape from what is likely a less than ideal assessment of one's own existence... but man. Some things I will never get.

 

I'm pretty sure that would be akin to blasphemy and he'd take my wand away.

I don't know what any of them do, but I presume they're activity centers. Basically it's a RPG like a facebook game, only huge with lots more money. :-D

As to the gay part, who cares!?rolleyes Even if the character was gay does not make him a paedophile if that's where you were going with that. I believe the actor who portrayed the wizard Gandalf in the LOTR trilogy was/is gay but the above still applies.

Not implying anything at all in the paedophile line. Just remembered JK Rowling saying something about Dumbledore being gay. Sir Ian McKellern (Gandalf) is defo gay. But a great and able actor. His turn in Extras was sublime. Not got a problem with anyone being gay. No homophobia in this cat's DNA. And as for nerdy......well, there's nerdy and there's nerdy. And Harry Potter is definitely nerdy. Bloody show off. I quite like Snape though. He's the real deal. Like what he's done with the hair. The shambolic look is making a comeback this season. Grease is this years peroxide.

I have to ask. I am a big fan of the Harry Potter series. Never read the books. Along with Loard of the rings. Decided not to read the books on them.

Reason on reading the books. Or not. I read a lot, retain what I've read. Read the whole Godfather set and then watched the movies. Movies somewhat follow the book but not always as, in the Godfather books. Dis-appointing sometimes on book to movie. Still great to watch. Loved the Green Mile.

As in my reading of Steven Kings books to watching movies comparded to the books.

Leave out things? Did the books pretty much match the series of the movies?

 

I would rather ask if the movies matched the books? Yes they do to an extent, one can't obviously include in a movie all of the character development nor the complete plot so do go read the books! They'll fill in some of the gaps in the story.

I still enjoy reading LOTR every 10 years or so. I doubt I would read Potter more often than that, if at all, as the early books are just too childish for me to re-read though still good. LOTR reigns supreme over here.

 

Theres some stuff in the books that was either glossed over in the movie or omitted entirely... some of it really needed to be in the movies but it doesn't detract from them THAT much...

The only one I can think of that would have added some real entertainment value was the Weasley Brothers' tormenting of Dolores Umbridge. It was pretty funny in the book and I would have loved to see it on the big screen.
