I have a EEE PC 904 HD notebook. I had the battery charger plugged into the notebook and unfortunately dropped it onto the floor.

The power connection pin inside the notebook is now loose and cannot be charged. I did take the notebook to a local PC repair shop who said that the connection has to be resoldered but that the pins are too small for them to do it.

Can the power connection be fixed? And if so does it have to be by ASUS or can other repair shops fix it?

In theory, it should be able to be fixed. The problem (as the first PC shop stated) is the connections are incredibly small - it's about as tricky as watch or fine jewelry repair.

I would get out the phone book (or go to www.yp.com) and call a few PC shops in your area. Explain what's broken, what the first PC shop told you and ask if they can do the repair - and, if so, how much?

Although I don't personally do repairs involving board soldering in my shop, I have an expert at a nearby shop who gives me wholesale rates on doing such work. He has very high-end soldering guns, a few years experience and the nerves of steel required to work on tiny solder connections.

For a shop that can do it, I'd estimate the repair cost at between $120 - $150. Given this, you'll have to decide (based on the age and specs of the PC) if it's worth fixing versus buying a new one.

    Hope these tips help. :)
