Hello all, new guy here please be nice. :)

I am having a problem with a PC here that I am not sure what to check next. The machine was put together my a local company and appears to be about 3-4 years old. It has an Athlon Processor and 256 mb of memory. The problem I am having is that once or twice a week the user will go to start the machine up and it wont start. She can then turn the power switch on the PSU off and back on a few times and the system will then power up.

I have replaced the 350W PSU with a 450W PSU thinking it was undersized, no luck. When the system is started the on/off light will power on for just a second and go off.

Could this be a bad motherboard? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks,
    JC

jchance welcome to Major Geeks, yea it could be the MB as you suggested, could also be just a loose connector though that's no likely after the PSU swap, could aslo be a "Cold" solder joint on the MB. Could also be the power switch on the computer itsself if so equipped. Hey if you findout drop us a line Okay

TimW: Since this computer is on a network it won't let me use the software. I will have to take it off the network before I can scan it and I can't do that till after the user goes home. Will it still work if I remove the PC from the network, or am I wasting my time?

BCGray: So what you are saying is that it is most likely the board that is the issue as long as the a) connections are all good, b) the new PSU is not bad, and c) the switch isn't bad. Right? May have to see if there is an extra case around that I could swap it into to check the switch.

    Thanks for the help guys.
