A WORLD-LEADING communications development allowing access to broadband internet through powerlines will be tested in Hobart.

The high-speed internet and telephone services will be available through standard household powerpoints and will be tested by Aurora Energy.
Hailed as the new age of telecommunications, the Broadband over Power Line (BPL) technology enables data to be sent through power lines and received via a modem plugged into an existing home power point.

Old stuff, Japan has had it for a while now, testing started last year in the US. Wish they would hurry up with it though, since the technology is efficient and proven.

Yeah old-tech but nice to start seeing some ISP/Power companies taking this onboard and implementing it for the masses.

A couple of the UK power companies ( ScotHydro and Southern Elec ) trialed or are still trialing BPL/PLC since 2003.
