dwnlded drive image 7.0 to create a backup of my hard drive on cd-r. also dwnlded net framework(msn) as requested, said it was required to run their program. got to disk # 21 (75%) and a message appeared read "verifying backup files" . couple of minutes later a request to insert disk one of the backup set. did it. couple minutes later another request for now the last disk in the backup set. did this twice. next an error message :ERROR E7D1001E, incorrect function (OxE7D1001E). now that i have enough coasters to last me the rest of my life does someone have any idea whatup? i'm no way going to throw away another 21 cd-r's using this software, is there no way to salvage any data on these things? gotta be a better way. i've heard from other people they have no luck backing up their hard drives to disks either. should i just backup everything to my other internal hard drive and be content or should i purchase an external drive and just transfer everything to that and store it in the closet? tried their tech support site, no listing for that particular error. no return e-mail yet either. they are now owned by symantec.

Sorry to hear about your coasters but you might be glad to know instead of coasters try wall art or maybe a mobile.

I must agree that backing up to disk has never been a good idea. All that flipping CDs and tray openings and closing.

Your back up needs are best met by determining how much and what kind of backup you want. Fortunatly somebody very knowledgable already wrote a really nice primer for this and it won't cost you thing to read it. Isn't the Internet wonderful.

    So, rather than plagerise...

    Fred Langa sez...

"This is the Holy Grail of Backups: A method that ensures you’ll never lose an important file; never have to rebuild your system and reinstall all your software from scratch; never have to re-type or recreate old data; never have that awful “Oh, no!” moment when you realize you need a file you deleted several weeks--- or even years--- ago."
